The Hyperdeck products looked like the holy grail at first glance. But once I found out they work ONLY in uncompressed, I was thrown off.
1 hour of 1080i30 is 500 gigs. A 500 gig SSD is $1000.
Then, how do you handle archive and post? It’s simply too much data to effectively manage in the post pipeline for small or medium shops.
To me, these units would well be worth twice the price, or even 3 times the price, if they included ProRes and worked off of HDD rather that SSD.
Great concept, especially the studio version, but without compression, these units are just too unwieldy.
