What $300 Buys These Days

One of those “I sure hope this is true” stories…

OK, folks, have a look at “Lazy Teenage Superheroes,” a funny, really watchable (and slightly NSFW for language) 13-minute riff on science fiction:

The story goes that it was produced for the princely sum of $300.  Now obviously, for that to be true everyone worked for free, and all the sets, cameras, and editing was tossed in gratis as well.  But it looks really great, and kind of holds a funhouse mirror up to stories like “X-Men” and the like.

And it reminded me of another great short from back in the early 2000’s that deserves another look.  Have you ever seen “405”?

They claim the title of “The Original Viral Video,” and I know it was the first piece of online video I ever recommended to anyone.  Or everyone, for that matter.  I just couldn’t stop jabbering about it.  Astounding (for the time) effects, a Ben Affleck-look alike driving a Jeep, and a great punchline made for a real treat way back then,

Maybe we could say that “Lazy Teenage Superheroes” is a semi-direct descendant of “405”.  In any event, it’s great to see real creativity out there on the Web.

So what’s your favorite viral video?
