Podcasting is NOT Dead

Richard Harrington | 11/16- 05:42 PM

Podcast, Webisode, or Netcast… doesn’t matter…

I just need to rant for a second… I am sick and tired of people claiming that podcasting is dead. The truth is that it is far from it. While the names and flavors may change, podcasting is alive and well. Here’s what I have spent the past week doing.

I spoke in New York City for 3 days at the NY Post Conference. I was joined by great podcasters like Paul Vogelzang of MommyCast, Dusty Wright and Richard Burns from Culture Catch, and Alexandra Gebhardt from Inside Mac. We had healthy crowds with great questions. There were also big companies there, like TiVo and HP, as well as representation from several universities. I also had some great meetings with Apple and mDialog… two great companies with cool things coming.

Meeting the challenges of today’s weak economy

Steve Hullfish | 11/13- 07:39 AM

Bringing home the production bacon

Last year was my best year ever. Huge projects and lots of them. Plenty of work to pass out to the great freelancers that I knew. This year… not so much. Actually this year is my worst year. From feast to famine.

So what am I doing about it? Losing sleep? Yes. But this is an inspirational and motivational column to convince you to wear out some shoe leather and burn up the phone lines.

There’s still work out there. Someone is doing it. So how do you get a piece of the pie?

Anything Worth Backing Up…

Chris Meyer | 10/19- 07:57 PM

...is worth backing up twice. To good media.

Recently, there was a good discussion on the MediaMotion After Effects list about archiving projects. Some use RAIDs and shared network storage devices; some use tape drives such as the Quantum LTO-3; some use stacks of DVDs; some use raw hard disks with adaptors like the Wiebetech ComboDock (which Art Adams wrote about a few weeks ago). However, three universal themes emerged:

Interview over on Motion.TV

Chris Meyer | 10/02- 07:29 AM

Where we talk about the mission of a motion graphics artist, and why we write books.

One of our plans for this blog is to also talk about the business of being a motion graphics artist - how to work with clients, as well as how to keep your own ship in order. Unfortunately, we haven’t had time to do much of that so far (among other things, we’ve moved). However, Lilian Dregalla interviewed us for the motion08 conference, where we had a chance to muse about subjects such as understanding the purpose behind each motion graphics task you take on, as well as some of the philosophy behind our books. You can read it here.

Meanwhile, we’re about to hit the road, speaking at VidXpo in Denver next week, and then speaking at motion08 in Albuquerque the week after. Hope to see some of you there! Afterward, we’re hunkering down to finish a new edition of After Effects Apprentice (for CS4), and then hopefully this winter we can get back to some of the topics we want to blog about up here.

The End of the DVD Reel

Alan Shisko | 10/01- 10:53 AM

There. I said it. DVDs are done like dinner. Disappered like dodos. Disposed of like dirty dishes. Dissapated like disparaging alliterations that I’m now going to stop, please and thank you. Yes, I’ve burned my last DVD, and I’ll be a richer, more dynamic and connected man for it.
