A Sound Solution to HDSLR Audio

Sennheiser Offers HDSLR Shooters A High End Shotgun

It seems everyone wants a piece of the HDSLR pie, and Sennheiser USA is no exception. With Rode microphones and Zoom recorders aggressively achieving an early HDSLR market position, Sennheiser is a bit late in the game, but according to Kevin Waehner of Sennheiser, their new MKH 8060 shotgun brings a high end solution for those seeking a camera top shot gun microphone.

Waehner tells us at NAB 2011, that the MKH 8060 will ensure the highest sound quality under some of the toughest climatic conditions that tend to compromise the quality of some other microphones. The RF transducer design produces high sensitivity and low distortion.

The microphone is ideal for not only camera mounting but boom mounting as well. MKH 8060 is Sennheiser’s first short shotgun to interface directly into digital systems via the MZD 8000 digital module.

Here are some of the MKH 8060’s features:

  • Redesigned interference tube suppresses off-axis sounds without coloration.
  • Symmetrical RF condenser design yields superior immunity to moisture and low distortion.
  • Modular design allows addition of a filter (MZF8000) or digital output module (MZD8000).
  • Comparable directivity to the industry standard MKH 416 in a compact, lightweight format.

  • Here’s what’s in the box:

  • MKH 8060 short shotgun microphone body
  • MZX 8000 analog output module (XLR)
  • MZQ 8060 microphone clip
  • MZW 8060 foam windshield
  • Frequency response sheet
  • Threaded transport tube

  • Cost of the Sennheiser MKH 8060 is $1998.00.

How to get good production dialogue

    Matt Jeppsen | 05/15

Use a boom mic and some common sense!

Here’s a short and sweet video with a tip on the best way to get good production dialogue audio from your talent. Watch below.

NAB 2012: Trucolor Ohm Space Light

    Bruce A Johnson | 04/20

400 watts of LED replaces a 6K?  Sounds good to me.

Next time you need to flood a room with soft light - in whatever color temperature - you should give the Ohm a look.

    NAB 2012: EZ-Jib

    Bruce A Johnson | 04/20

EZ to use, EZ on your wallet

I’ve always been intrigued by jib arms, and usually put off by their high prices.  EZ-FX might have a solution to that problem.

NAB 2012: Swedish Chameleon DSLR Shoulder Mount

    Bruce A Johnson | 04/17

    No, it isn’t a lizard.

There are a lot of DSLR mounts out there, but this one lets you say:  “Look Mom, no hands.”
