Is this the best free plug-in ever?
Kevin P McAuliffe | 03/22
A plug-in for something that editors do on almost a daily basis (or at least I do)!
One thing that used to drive me crazy was when a client asked me if I could pull a video off the internet. The short answer I always gave was…..“sort of”......or “it depends on what type of video”. Well, I don’t say that anymore. With this absolutely free plug-in for both Mac and Windows, this once annoying “problem” now becomes a piece of cake.
Let me introduce you to Downloadhelper, a free plug-in for Firefox for both Mac and Windows, that works very simply. Once you have navigated to a site with video that Firefox understands, you will notice the icon start to animate at the top of your browser. Simply navigate up to it, click on the drop down, and you will now be presented with a list of the files that are on that page.
If it happens to be a YouTube video (like you see below), you can even choose what quality you want to download from what has been uploaded by whoever posted the video. You can even convert the video from formats like .flv to to any number of different formats.
To install Downloadhelper is simple. Under tools in Firefox, select “Add-ons”. Then, simply type in “downloadhelper” into the search box.
That’s it. Now head on over to a website that has video, and let the fun begin. Downloadhelper is free, but the developers do take donations, so if you like it, give them a buck to help keep this fantastic free plug-in going for a long time.

Thanks Kevin! I was trying to remember the name of this plug-in since I retired my old computer. Being able to download online videos for clients is so relevant today.
