Almost all the effects you saw above were created on their presets, but I have to say that I was a little surprised that there are no presets for any of the effects, which again, is a bit of a disappointment, as time is a luxury I don’t have, and presets, for me, are a huge time saver. Let me show you how my favorite effect, the Skew effect works, and how you Final Cut users can make your own presets:
I think that with Damage v2, you are covered with just about every possible distortion possibility you could ever need, and unlike many plug-ins out there, when you apply the effect to your footage, and go into the effects palette, most of the parameters are fairly self explanatory, and you rarely find yourself looking for the help menu to figure things out.
PROS
- Wide host support
- Probably the best “Damage” out there!
- Fast renders
- some plug-ins auto-animates, which means no keyframing unless you need something specific
- $99 is reasonable (and it was just $49 on sale a little while ago)
- 64-bit ready for AE CS5
CONS
- Couldn’t the six plug-ins be combined into one?
- No presets or the ability to save any presets within the plug-in
Damage v2 has some of the best distortion effects out there, and even though there are a few downsides, if you or your client want to wreck your footage, and you either don’t have a “Bad TV” plug-in, or one you are happy with, Damage v2 definitely deserves a look.
