At its core, Flow is an asset management application. It’s always running, unless you turn it off, and it’s constantly looking at every asset on your computer, and looking at their relationships with other assets. What it is also doing is building node-based maps so that you can quickly find any asset in any project.
Here’s what I mean by that. Let’s say for example you have a Photoshop file that has six layers in it, and you need to track down the original asset that is located on layer two of the Photoshop file. Without GF, the normal procedure is to scoure your hard drives trying to find the file. Imagine that someone puts a blindfold on you, spins you around a few times, and then says “Go find Atlanta!”. That’s about the real-world equivalent. With Flow, you can simply right click on the Photoshop file, and say “View in Gridiron Flow”, and once the files map has been loaded, you can simply select the element on layer two of the Photoshop file, and Flow will tell you at the bottom of the screen. Yes, it’s just that easy, and it works the same no matter which of the supported application projects you happen to be looking through. I recently did a video for Digital Juice, as they have GF as a Partner Product. Check it out!
Now, the reason that I mention that Digital Juice has it as a Partner Product, is that if you are thinking of purchasing it after reading this article, DJ is offering Flow at 50% off the retail price. That’s only $99, which is a total steal for a product like this. If you want it, don’t wait as the DJ offer won’t be around forever!
PROS:
You won’t even know it’s running, but Flow is always watching!
$99 is a steal if you pick it up right now from DJ!
You will never “lose” another asset again
Access Flow right from within Photoshop, Illustrator. InDesign and Flash with the CS4/CS5 Flash Panel.
Access complete file histories, and revert current file to any older version
Flow tracks the time spent on a file or project, which makes billing clients a snap!
CONS:
You didn’t realize how great Gridiron’s Flow was earlier!
If you don’t act quick, you’ll have to pay full price (which is still TOTALLY worth it!)
In the end, Gridiron’s Flow is a great product, that if you work on multiple projects in a day (or in my case, an hour), Flow will not only get your organized, but it will keep you organized, and give you precious minutes (and hours) back in your day to focus on what you need to. The product does what it says, however, you didn’t mention that the cache folder it creates is enormous and it is very difficult to delete if need/want to for whatever the reason. Also, because it has to constantly index everything all the time, the hard drive/s almost never stop spinning and thrashing.
PVC is a great site I appreciate all your efforts.
Cheers
