REVIEW - Monster GT from Genarts
Kevin P McAuliffe | 07/15
Does this Monster ROAR, or should is stay under the bed?
Neither Monster GT or Sapphire v5 have any presets from what I can see, but with that being said, I will say that in most cases, Monster GT’s effects look really good once they are applied, and since many of them are “real-world” effects, are easy to manipulate to create the look you want (assuming you/I have the time). One thing I found very surprising about Monster GT is you would think that these plug-ins would look outdated as they have been around for a while, but they still had the same “wow” factor today that they had years ago when I saw them in Avid’s DS. I’d probably attribute that to the fact that very few effects appear in other plug-in packages, which makes Monster GT stand out from the crowd. All in all, a very expensive plug-in pack but on the flip side, a very powerful one that will create effects, the likes of which, you have not seen in After Effects before!
PROS
- Ultra-realistic/photo-realistic effects like Fire & Luna (Moon) make Monster stand out from the crowd
- can be packaged with Sapphire for a discounted price
- Effects look great on their preset.
CONS
- $999 price tag (Ouch!)
- only 54 plug-ins (that’s about $19/plug-in)
- No rental option for Monster
- No presets means higher learning curve for new users
This review was a tricky one. Even thought the “CONS” in this case outweigh the “PROS”, it doesn’t mean that I don’t recommend Monster GT. My real only problems with Monster GT is I find the price to be a little high, and the fact that there was no presets means there’s a higher learning curve for Monster. My overall thoughts on Monster GT is to pick it up with Sapphire v5 for Genarts’ discounted price. They compliment Sapphire extremely well, and will take any project you are working on to the next level and beyond. You can check out Monster GT and download the free demo at http://www.genarts.com
