Ten Editing “Must Own’s” of 2010 - #8

Kevin P McAuliffe | 01/13

If you’re an editor, here’s the third of ten products from 2010 that you MUST own!

When editors or motion graphic designers are designing elements for lower thirds, show openings or background beds, they always need elements that they can use to not only spice up their current project, but also have a complete package to build elements from scratch.  The Motion Designer’s Toolkit from Digital Juice is just that product.

Motion Designer’s Toolkits 1-7

Company - Digital Juice
Cost - Prices vary as they always have monthly specials (but as of this writing, $124.95 US each)

Now, I’m cheating a little on this one, as the original volume of the MDTK was released back in 2009, but volumes two through seven were released in 2010, so that’s why I’m including it in the best of 2010.

WHY YOU NEED IT

As soon as you mention “Stock Footage”, most people groan, as stock footage has been given a bit of a bad wrap, because many times when you use a stock element in something, chances are you will see it, or hear it, in ten other promos.  Well Digital Juice, one of the original stock footage/element pioneers are taking their products to the next level by releasing new volumes of their one of their flagship packages throughout 2010, and I’m talking about the Motion Designer’s Toolkit.  What these toolkits (now up to seven volumes) provide is hundreds (and sometimes thousands) of stock elements, as well as After Effects projects that were used to create them, as well as Illustrator files (if available) that can all be easily altered to your projects specific needs, and take what was once one stock element and making, potentially, an infinate number of possibilities.  I should point out that if you were to purchase the entire collection, volumes one through seven, you would have a total of 8,404 quicktime animations, 8,261 After Effects projects that created those animations (not all animations have an associated project) and 2,493 Illustrator files to take and alter to your liking.

If you haven’t checked out Digital Juice in a while, the Motion Designer’s Toolkit is just one of many fantastic products that they sell, but for my money, it’s the purchase that will keep on giving for a long time to come!  Head over to http://www.digitaljuice.com to check out the Motion Designer’s Toolkit.

Sorry, but since I’m a little bit of a ‘proper use of English freak’ I have to comment on your use of the word ‘wrap’ as it pertains to your article. ‘Wrap’ is what you do when you’re ‘wrapping’ a gift with ‘wrapping’ paper.’

The word ‘rap’ (no it’s not the music genre) refers to a ‘rap’ sheet, which is a list of all the crimminal activities of an individual, hence the term ‘bad rap’.

You decide which one appropriate for your article.

Cheers,

Don
