Kendal Miller

Kendal Miller has over 10 years experience in the production industry. Currently he is working as Director of Photography in Chicago, IL where he resides with his wife Kendra.

He works on a wide variety of projects ranging from commercial to independent film projects, working on one of the first commercial Red projects in the midwest area. When he's not shooting film or video he enjoys still photography as a hobby.

An original part of the FreshDV team and contributing author to such magazines as DV and others Kendal enjoys providing industry training and education for others, and feels he often learns through the writing process as well.

Cinevate unveils Pegasus Slider system

Cinevate has officially launched their “slider” system, dubbed Pegasus. A camera slider allows you to make short, precise dolly moves without the hassle of setting up and operating a full dolly. In my experience, they are generally best-suited for small crews running camera rigs under 10lbs. I see that Cinevate is offering a few different variations of their slider, including a very basic “table top dolly” type config for $300, another 2lb slider variant for 10lb rigs, and all the way up to the $850 “heavy lifter” variant with a 100mm bowl and rated for 30lb camera rigs. Know when to hold ‘em, when to fold ‘em

I just read the account of amateur photographer Duane Kerzic, who was arrested for taking photos at the Amtrak Pennsylvania Station in New York just before Christmas. Ironically, Duane was taking photographs for a contest sponsored by Amtrak, entitled “Picture Our Train.” According to Duane’s side of the story, he was unlawfully ordered to delete his photos, and when he did not comply he was illegally arrested for trespassing. Whether or not Duane was in the right here, he makes some interesting points about why photographers (and by extension, videographers) should not be banned. Here’s what he has to say:

Cool After Effects Tutorial - Rhythmic Motion Typography

Bring static text to life with this simple tutorial

As a video editor, I posses a very basic working knowledge of Adobe After Effects. I can zing around in Final Cut Pro and Soundtrack Pro, but my grasp of AE is still a work in progress. So when I happen across a tutorial that I’m able to quickly grasp, you know I have to share it. Here’s one such tutorial video compliments of AETUTS that shows you how to do that currently-popular dynamic text/lyrics thing, bringing simple words to life in time with music.
