Basic how-to tutorial to quickly get you up and shooting on the 7D

image

Everyone’s favorite video DSLR advocate, Tyler Ginter, has produced another video tutorial similar to his last (that one concentrated on the 5D MKII). This new tutorial focuses on the basics of how to set up and how to shoot video on the Canon 7D. In this tutorial, Tyler takes all the pain and suffering out of the menu and settings configuration process. If you want to get the fast track on how to shoot with the 7D, watch the video below…

Increase your Canon 7D or 5D dynamic range

Matt Jeppsen | 10/30

Modifying Picture Styles to increase DSLR Video Latitude

image

Stockholm-based Canon 7D shooter Luka has posted a wonderful tutorial on Vimeo on maximizing the dynamic range of your DSLR video. As he states in the video, the tutorial is not aimed at making pretty pictures directly from the camera…it is intended to give you more information to work with later in post and color correction. It’s a very well done tutorial, and applies equally well to Canon 5D MKII Picture Styles. It’s also rather funny. Check it out below.

The First Must-See short shot with the Canon 7D

Matt Jeppsen | 09/11

Not all “subway shorts” are created equal. Jason Magbanua & Co deliver the goods.

image

Jason Magbanua is one of a very select group of wedding videographers that understands how to craft a story of substance and manage to meld it with cinematic visuals. It seems as though the majority of that industry manages to do one or the other, rarely a compelling combination of both. Magbanua was one of the early pioneers of the wedding Same Day Edit, and he continues to evolve and improve. His studio’s corporate and commercial work has long been an inspiration to me. And their latest creation, a demonstration of the capabilities of the new Canon EOS 7D camera, does not disappoint. Watch below.

Red Epic shoots Esquire’s Sexiest Woman Alive 2009

Matt Jeppsen | 09/11

Teaser image and video from the 2009 convergence shoot

image

The photographer that previously used a Red One camera to shoot Megan Fox earlier this year for Esquire’s Sexiest Woman Alive 2008 has upped the ante for 2009. The crew at Red provided an early production camera from the new Epic line for the 2009 shoot, and Esquire has leaked a mysterious framegrab and short video clip. So I guess that means Red might actually ship a new camera this year! Sweet.

The video clip is embedded below. For technical evaluation purposes only, of course. Enjoy.
