Cinevate unveils Pegasus Slider system
Matt Jeppsen | 01/08
Short dolly moves, sans dolly
Cinevate has officially launched their “slider” system, dubbed Pegasus. A camera slider allows you to make short, precise dolly moves without the hassle of setting up and operating a full dolly. In my experience, they are generally best-suited for small crews running camera rigs under 10lbs. I see that Cinevate is offering a few different variations of their slider, including a very basic “table top dolly” type config for $300, another 2lb slider variant for 10lb rigs, and all the way up to the $850 “heavy lifter” variant with a 100mm bowl and rated for 30lb camera rigs. Read on…
They are also showing off an underslung cable dolly option, and are suggesting a remote-controlled motor may be available in the future. All the slider variants appear to be somewhat modular, using Cinevate Proteus blocks and components. They are also making it possible to use industry-standard 5/8 grip gear, so the slider can be mounted on a C-stand for instance, instead of a tripod.
As someone that owns and uses Cinevate gear on a regular basis, I’m excited to see Dennis and Co take on the slider market at this price point. I think that they are in a unique position to bring a higher level of craftsmanship and build quality to sliders in this price range. Which, at first look appears very affordable. Looking forward to getting my hands on this rig and seeing how it performs.

Crane? Dolly? The FloatCam Is Both!
It’s just about time to start making a list of what I really want to see at NAB 2011, so when a Facebook post from GearHeads came across linked to this video for the FloatCam, let’s just say I was…intrigued. (And nostalgic for my long-since-sold VW Bug Convertible.)
Got any stuff you want me to check out for you in Vegas next month? Let’s hear it!
