Using text animation to drive a message
I saw this animation recently and I thought it was a great example of a powerful message created primarily with animated text. What do you think?

Power Tip
It’s easy enough to track a lens flare along a straight line, but what to do when you want it to trace an arc? Click below to see my technique, and then view the complete clip here. Bonus: This tip isn’t necessarily exclusive to Knoll Light Factory and can be used with any plugin that has an emitter source, such as Trapcode Particular.

Power Tip
This is the first of two little ‘power tips’ to those who use Knoll Light Factory in the course of their work. This one talks about how you can use an After Effects animation preset to simplify the process of viewing all available options in the KLF effect setup window.

Hi everyone, I first wanted to say thank you to the PVC team for making me a part of their family. I feel honored to have been asked to be a part of the new Motion Graphics & Visual Effects channel. I have some informative tutorials planned for pro and amateur alike and hope that you all enjoy and find them helpful.
In this tutorial I show a technique on how to add grain to your cg elements and match it to your source footage. I include some hotkeys (my favorite tools) and tips for the process.

One Man’s Guide to Getting Started
Greetings, all. My name is Alan Shisko, and I’m a freelance motion graphics artist based out of Toronto, Canada. I’m pleased to have been asked to contribute to the ProVideo Coalition community, and I look forward to many and varied posts on the subject of motion graphics design.
By way of introduction, I might first invite you to take a look at my reel here. If you’d like to dig a little deeper into the work that I do, you’ll find a fairly complete catalog of recent work here.
For my first post, I’d like to address the question of “how to get started” in this industry (that is, motion graphic design). I often get emails (and even phone calls) from people who are looking for a leg up. They’ve done a bit of research, seen some reels, know what they’d like to accomplish and are interested in getting started. But they haven’t a clue where to begin.
It’s a very tricky question to address, and I think it’d be best to begin with how I got started in this industry. It’s a bit lengthy, and if you want to skip the verbose back story, just pop down to the last paragraph or two.

The first in a series of new channels we’re launching.
We’re very proud of the line-up of users and experts we have writing for PVC. However, not all potential writers have the time to fill an entire channel of their own. Therefore, in the coming weeks we’ll be launching a series of “themed” channels, each containing a rotating cast of several additional writers.
The first such new channel is Motion Graphics & Visual Effects. Among the writers we have slated to share their expertise are:
John Dickinson of Motionworks
Jonas Hummelstrand of General Specialist
Alan Shisko of Motion Graphics ‘n Such
Mark Spencer of All About Motion
David Torno of AE I Owe You
All of these guys are well-known users in the community, and as witnessed by the above sites, have already been sharing information with others. We’re happy to have them sharing information with you up here on PVC.
Additional channels we have planned include Editing & Post Production, Cameras, Lights, Action, and Web Video & Beyond.
If you are interested in writing for PVC, please contact me at cmeyer @ this site’s domain. Tell me your expertise, what you’re interested in writing about, and show me a few examples of your writing. If you’re accepted, you’ll share in the ad revenue generated by PVC based on your traffic. Help us make PVC an even better resource for all who visit.
Best Regards -
Chris Meyer
