Grain Matching

David Torno | 09/23- 01:31 AM

Hi everyone, I first wanted to say thank you to the PVC team for making me a part of their family. I feel honored to have been asked to be a part of the new Motion Graphics & Visual Effects channel. I have some informative tutorials planned for pro and amateur alike and hope that you all enjoy and find them helpful.

In this tutorial I show a technique on how to add grain to your cg elements and match it to your source footage. I include some hotkeys (my favorite tools) and tips for the process.

Motion Graphics & Visual Effects

Chris Meyer | 09/21- 10:52 PM

The first in a series of new channels we’re launching.

We’re very proud of the line-up of users and experts we have writing for PVC. However, not all potential writers have the time to fill an entire channel of their own. Therefore, in the coming weeks we’ll be launching a series of “themed” channels, each containing a rotating cast of several additional writers.

The first such new channel is Motion Graphics & Visual Effects. Among the writers we have slated to share their expertise are:

John Dickinson of Motionworks

Jonas Hummelstrand of General Specialist

Alan Shisko of Motion Graphics ‘n Such

Mark Spencer of All About Motion

David Torno of AE I Owe You

All of these guys are well-known users in the community, and as witnessed by the above sites, have already been sharing information with others. We’re happy to have them sharing information with you up here on PVC.

Additional channels we have planned include Editing & Post Production, Cameras, Lights, Action, and Web Video & Beyond.

If you are interested in writing for PVC, please contact me at cmeyer @ this site’s domain. Tell me your expertise, what you’re interested in writing about, and show me a few examples of your writing. If you’re accepted, you’ll share in the ad revenue generated by PVC based on your traffic. Help us make PVC an even better resource for all who visit.

Best Regards -
Chris Meyer
PVC Editorial Director

LIGHTING: Advanced Cucoloris Use Illustrated by a Solar Eclipse

Art Adams | 05/24- 11:24 AM

Q: What happens when you stack several pattern-making devices in front of a light? A: Extreme lighting goodness. Learn why here…

I love stacking cucolorii (plural of “cucoloris”) and I thought it was time to write an article about how this technique works and why I like it so much. I was a bit stretched for ideas that would illustrate this concept… and then an eclipse happened. Why that made a difference is a very interesting story…
