The new release (with some judicious adjustments) makes it easier to create easier-to-watch stereo scenes from 3D compositions.
You may remember our blog post on the “inherent” problems with stereoscopic 3D that famed film editor Walter Murch pointed out in an open letter to film critic Roger Ebert. We took Murch’s comments as inspiration to explore workflows in the latest release of After Effects that might work around some of Murch’s concerns: Namely, getting the eyes and brain to converge and focus on the same object (preferably one the same distance from the viewer as the screen).
We spent a good deal of time with Chuck at NAB. I was interested in the DSLR as much as the new video cameras. What caught my attention most was his discussion of the Technicolor partnership. I would bet we hear more about that, and expanding that partnership over time…
As Karl completed giving a presentation to a large audience at NAB, I asked him if he’d provide a similar walk through for PVC online. It’s a long video (15 minutes) but very worth watching in my opinion.

I spent a lot of time in the DSC Labs booth at NAB, giving Chroma Du Monde demonstrations and teaching basic waveform/vectorscope tricks. PVC’s Scott Gentry stopped by and asked me to say a few words on video, and this is the result. Enjoy!

I love stacking cucolorii (plural of “cucoloris”) and I thought it was time to write an article about how this technique works and why I like it so much. I was a bit stretched for ideas that would illustrate this concept… and then an eclipse happened. Why that made a difference is a very interesting story…
On this week’s MacBreak Studio, I show Steve Martin from Ripple Training a few things I’ve discovered in my exploration of the compositing features in Final Cut Pro X.
