Record-breaking Q1 sales and major new encoding, transcoding, live webcasting and workflow automation solutions fuel significant business momentum
Las Vegas, the NAB Show™, April 11, 2010
Telestream, a leading provider of digital media tools and workflow solutions, arrived at the NAB Show™ this week with three major new products and record-breaking revenue growth. Despite a volatile economy, Telestream cited Q1 2010 as the most successful quarter on record. Revenues for enterprise products were up 25% for the first quarter over the previous year, and desktop products finished with strong 45% growth. This follows more than a decade of strong, double-digit consecutive annual revenue growth. Today, more than 80% of the top broadcast station groups, media companies and Fortune 100 companies, along with millions of consumers rely on Telestream products. With the burst of new products being introduced at the NAB Show, Telestream’s customers and business will be further augmented.
“Building on our strength of growth and products, we are continuing to offer innovative new solutions to better meet the needs of our customers and to help build the digital media world of the next decade,” said Dan Castles, CEO of Telestream. “We are launching major new products in our core file-based product areas, as well as a key new product for the live webcasting market. This follows two years of intense research and development, an acquisition to further expand our offerings, two global leadership awards in the video transcoder market in 2009, all topped by record first quarter sales and profitability.”
Telestream’s new products address major challenges and opportunities in the video industry. As companies continue to face cost reductions, declining revenues from traditional distribution channels, and the need to support a growing number of new channels, Telestream brings products to NAB that address all these needs. The new Telestream solutions improve operational efficiency, help facilitate the migration to IT and open doors to new business opportunities, including in the live streaming space.
New Products Make their NAB Debut
• Vantage™ is a major new enterprise-class workflow design and automation software solution that revolutionizes video capture, transcoding, metadata processing, analysis, graphics assembly and video file management in IT video environments.
• Vantage™ Transcode is a powerful, affordable enterprise-class server transcoder. Built on the award-winning FlipFactory® transcode engine, Vantage Transcode offers the industry’s broadest and deepest file format support for broadcast, cable, edit, web, mobile, VOD, and IPTV workflows.
• Episode® 6 is an industry-first, cross-platform, desktop-to-server software that takes video encoding to the next level by allowing users to pool resources to share encoding work across multiple computers in a mixed environment of Macs and PCs.
• Wirecast™ live webcasting software features a major 4.0 release and new Wirecast Pro product that allows anyone to easily create real-time or on-demand professional video broadcasts for the web.
Existing Products: Record Sales and New Features
FlipFactory, which until today has been Telestream’s flagship video transcoding and workflow product, achieved its highest sales on record in March 2010. Telestream continues to support FlipFactory with active product development. New features include support for Pitch Blue HD syndication delivery service with full Dolby E and closed caption support. Support is also added for Levels Beyond Inc. Reach Engine media platform, the new Pathfire HD DMG for syndication, and DG FastChannel SpotBox for ad delivery. Additional new spot delivery service support includes ExtremeReach, FastForward Digital, OnTheSpot Media, Radiance, Spot Genie, Hula and Yangaroo. New format support includes AVC Intra encode and decode for Panasonic P2 and Omneon Spectrum, JPEG-2000 for 360 Systems MAXX HD server, plus iPhone segmented file creation.
Telestream Pipeline™ network-based video capture devices also achieved record sales in the first quarter 2010. The product includes new playout-to-tape capability and full integration with Image Communications Compusat software. Footage from In Performance at the White House, a PBS program which was captured with Pipeline in February, is being featured in demonstrations at Telestream’s NAB booth SL3614.

NAB, Las Vegas, NV, April 13, 2010—mDialog, a leading mobile video and in-stream ad management platform, today announced a breakthrough for iPad live and VOD adaptive streaming with mDialog interactive ad-overlays for the iPad. Building on mDialog’s robust video streaming solution and ad management platform for the iPhone and iPad, mDialog is delivering content across Akamai’s HD Network, allowing for high performance and availability of mDialog powered video and ad content.
mDialog’s new interactive overlay solution gives broadcasters an engaging option for monetizing content on the iPad. With live and VOD streaming capabilities powered through Akamai, advertisers are now able, for the very first time, to deliver perfectly targeted overlaid advertising on live events and pre-recorded video streamed on the iPad. Interactive overlays directly involve the user in determining what advertising content they experience, going as far as giving the viewer the opportunity, on the fly, to choose which ad they would prefer to view.
mDialog’s interactive overlay technology combines impression-based, CPM-driven, in-stream video advertising with actionable, cost-per-click advertising, allowing users to experience the advertising they want, on their own terms. mDialog provides live and VOD broadcasters with the only complete adaptive streaming delivery platform with seamless interactive ad-overlays and in-stream ad-insertion with geo-targeting, day-parting and frequency capping.
Interactive video ad-overlays provide a perfect complement to the already extensive mDialog toolset, which includes to-the-second dynamic ad insertion services available through the mDialog Video Player SDK, as well as Safari HTML5 player. The mDialog SDK takes advantage of specific features only the iPad can offer, ultimately enhancing the viewing experience on these breakthrough devices and providing the publisher and advertisers the tools they need to easily stream and monetize their video on mobile.
“With our new in-stream interactive overlays and our ability to deliver targeted ad content to live and VOD audiences, Akamai’s HD Network solution means mDialog customers are assured their video and associated advertising will be delivered to the right audience in the right ad market. mDialog now stands as the most complete video and ad management platform for the iPhone and iPad on the market,” commented Greg Philpott, President and Founder, mDialog.

Vienna, 12 April 2010 – bwin, the world’s leading publicly quoted online gaming provider, is staging the world debut of its broadcasting system Sheeva at the digital media industry’s leading trade fair, the NAB Show, from 12 to 15 April 2010 in Las Vegas. Sheeva fuses live video with social media platforms and instant messaging systems while simultaneously integrating real-time data from bwin’s extensive online gaming line-up. To give a practical example, a soccer game broadcast can be enhanced with inserts from bwin gaming line-up and a moderator-controlled Skype chat. Thomas Fürstner, Director of Research & Development at bwin, sums up the core of this development: “VJ and online-gaming culture have merged with Sheeva to form a new interactive TV experience.”
According to current figures from the Nielsen market research company, 43% of all European TV viewers between 15 and 35 years of age simultaneously watch TV and surf the web on their PC or mobile terminal. This is an incentive for TV and content producers to do some rethinking, in order to bring new formats from a platform to every conceivable type of terminal. The bwin Research & Development Department has met this challenge by combining bwin’s wide-ranging online gaming line-up, maximum interactivity and the product experience by means of Sheeva, in order to satisfy the new consumer demands.
Moderator controls studio technology
Sheeva uses a graphical programming language and a framework of audio, video and web technologies. In addition, lighting and studio technology can be controlled by one person, which minimises equipment and HR costs. In the background, all the online-gaming transactions are processed by the existing back-end and billing system.
Sheeva is designed as a highly flexible system that can broadcast in real time via satellite, the Web and mobile TV in a single production environment. “So what we do is transform all kinds of internet messaging and social media platforms into a TV signal, which we then bring to the mobile phones of our customers in HD quality via satellite, as a flash video over the internet or via a terrestrial DVB-H signal,” adds Fürstner. In so doing, we rely on the Apple Quartz image technology, Quicktime and just:live from the Austrian broadcast specialist ToolsOnAir. just:live puts the real-time data converted into graphics into a format suitable for TV and the internet.

The bwin Group has over 20 million registered customers in more than 25 core markets and operates a number of platforms offering sports betting, poker, casino games, fortune and skill games as well as audio and video streams of top sporting events such as the German football Bundesliga.
