The company officially launches the innovative software with a high profile event for select guests at FotoKem in Burbank today. ARRI Relativity™ software is powered by Pixel Strings™, the first engine to fully harness the potential of GPU-based parallel processing for motion estimation and spatial-temporal image filtering. Marketed exclusively by ARRI, this technology was developed by Cinnafilm, a New Mexico software developer, teaming with Digital Film Central, a Vancouver post production facility, on the Texture Control module.

ARRI Relativity™ is a powerful suite of software tools that offers fast, efficient and interactive control of texture and time using sophisticated motion estimation techniques. ARRI Relativity™ software is powered by Pixel Strings™, the first engine to harness the potential of GPU-based parallel processing for motion estimation and spatial-temporal image filtering. In its most comprehensive version, the entire Relativity software bundle is currently comprised of three different applications: Texture Control, Film Simulation and SpaceTime Converter, with more coming soon. When director Michael Mann and cinematographer Dante Spinotti ASC came together for their fifth pairing to shoot Public Enemies, they decided to capture this period production with modern HD technology. “Michael’s idea was to create a hyper-reality, to bring a very realistic and beautiful look – not in terms of cosmetic Hollywood, but in terms of a direct approach to the number of locations and realistic settings,” Spinotti explains.
