Blackmagic Design Announces Media Express 2.0

PVC News Staff | 04/21

Blackmagic Design Inc. today announced Media Express 2.0 for Mac OS X, Windows and Linux platforms. Media Express is a video capture and playback software application compatible with all Blackmagic Design DeckLink, Multibridge and Intensity products. This new version is a major update that adds support for direct capture and playback of DPX, AVI and QuickTime files, as well as list based batch capture and playback. This software update also includes a major user interface overhaul.

Media Express 2.0 will be demonstrated at NAB 2009 on the Blackmagic Design booth SL10820.

Media Express 2.0 introduces support for Linux and has also been updated for Windows and Mac OS X platforms. The user experience is identical between platforms, and now with support for Linux, customers can take advantage of even more open source video software. Combined with low cost capture cards such as DeckLink SDI, this makes for very affordable creative workstations.

“This is a major software update for all our capture cards, and our focus was to allow easy DPX workflow, batch capture and add Linux support. I think with Media Express 2.0 we have easily provided all this and more,” said Matt Dowling, Product Manager, Blackmagic Design. “I am very excited by the great user interface our engineering teams have created for Media Express 2.0, and it’s incredibly easy and fast to use so I think our customers will love this free software update.”

Media Express 2.0 will also support double speed capture from Sony HDCAM SR decks, so customers can better utilize expensive high quality decks. This feature is supported when the double speed transfer option is installed in the Sony HDCAM SR deck, and when used with Blackmagic Design’s new DeckLink HD Extreme card with Dual Link 4:4:4 capture and playback.

Availability

Media Express 2.0 will be shipping in June 2009 free for download from the Blackmagic Design web site at http://www.blackmagic-design.com/support.
