Creative Arts Emmy Awards graphics created by Steam Productions using Blackmagic Design products

Randy Boyes | 09/25

San Jose, California, USA—September 24, 2008—Blackmagic Design Inc. today announced that Steam Productions selected Blackmagic Design products to create the stunning graphics for the 2008 Primetime Creative Arts Emmy® Awards. These Emmy awards were for programs and individual achievements at the 60th Annual Emmy Awards presentation.

“Earlier this year, I showed Spike Jones, Jr., producer of the Creative Arts Emmys, my HD reel that had been created on our new Blackmagic online suite,” said Scott Bryant, editor/owner, Steam Productions. “I believe that the impact of showing my reel on a large screen in full 1080 certainly helped my odds (as opposed to delivering a DVD, like most candidates). Spike was impressed with the reel and let me know immediately that I would be designing the show this year.”

One of the major concerns for Scott Bryant was that all of the footage and stills for the Emmys were broadcast safe with legal colors. However, this wasn’t a problem for Steam’s designers, because their Blackmagic Design Multibridge Pro automatically adjusted all the video outputs, ensuring the rendered Blackmagic 10 bit RGB footage was filtered for oversaturated colors and over-brightness. In effect, Multibridge Pro and DeckLink HD Pro capture card enabled Scott Bryant’s team of designers to stay focused on their design work while liberating them from the technical aspects of the production.

“Ultimately, the show went off without a hitch, the client was very happy, and is looking forward to lots of new work we can do together,” concluded Scott. “I’m happy that I have a foolproof system that allows me to create freely so that I can do what I do best. Everybody wins.”

“We are very excited to have been a part of the 2008 Primetime Creative Arts Emmys program,” said Dan May, president, Blackmagic Design Inc. “Enabling designers such as Scott Bryant at Steam to create the most amazing visual effects is what Blackmagic Design is all about.”
