Linear Acoustic and PRECO ink West Coast distribution deal

Randy Boyes | 10/29

LANCASTER, Pa. — Oct. 27, 2008 — Linear Acoustic, a manufacturer of customer-centric multichannel sound solutions for digital broadcast, today announced that PRECO, Inc. of Burbank, Calif., a distributor and systems integrator of HD video, switching, routing, conversion, and test and measurement equipment, will serve as the new distributor for the company’s west coast customers. PRECO will provide the full line of Linear Acoustic audio processing systems, including the company’s new AERO range of solutions targeted to the demands of digital broadcasting.

“Linear Acoustic provides unique and leading-edge solutions for managing multichannel surround sound audio and loudness issues in digital broadcast,” said Kent McGuire, PRECO’s president. “Our customers look to us for the latest and greatest technologies, and as a distributor of Linear Acoustic products, we can exceed their expectations by providing smart, sophisticated audio-processing systems.”

“PRECO’s clients include the ‘who’s who’ of the entertainment industry,” said Christina Carroll, vice president of sales and marketing at Linear Acoustic. “The company sells to major studios, networks, and television stations and this new relationship between our companies will provide exciting opportunities for Linear Acoustic while enabling PRECO to offer its customers the best solutions for their needs.”

Included in PRECO’s offering is the next-generation AERO.air (5.1)™ 10-channel TV audio processor. Winner of a 2008 TV Technology STAR Award, the AERO.air (5.1) is the world’s first TV audio processor to feature built-in Dolby® Digital (AC-3) encoding. Engineered on the foundation of the company’s supremely successful first-generation digital television processors, the AERO.air (5.1) system enables broadcasters to deliver compelling 5.1-channel surround sound while saving time, money, and space. The comprehensive solution is equipped with a loudness controller, upmixer, and metadata manager, as well as full-time, two-channel downmixing to support legacy analog paths.

“Since its unveiling, our AERO.air has met with resounding success,” continued Carroll. “More than ever, broadcasters are looking for cost-effective solutions. The AERO.air (5.1) provides them with high-quality 5.1-channel surround sound, a loudness controller and more, all in one package. We are confident that we will see further success as PRECO offers this proven technology to their customers.”
