Revolutionary New Concept in Control to Make its Debut at CEDIA EXPO 2011

Remote Technologies Incorporated (RTI) today announced its new SURFiR companion remote for the iPad®, iPhone®, and iPod touch®. Making its debut at CEDIA EXPO 2011, the SURFiR is a unique and revolutionary new device that overcomes some of the inherent limitations of tablets and smartphones as primary controllers, delivering elements of a robust, high-end control system — including a rich graphical interface, user-friendly ergonomics, instant connectivity, and highly reliable operation — in a seamless, low-cost package.

The SURFiR companion remote represents a revolutionary new concept in control, providing an affordable solution to incorporate tactile control with a smartphone or tablet device. The remote allows users to incorporate the Apple® devices that they already own as the main graphical interface for their control system, while adding the convenience of tactile control with hard buttons, and eliminating the numerous screen swipes needed for control tasks that require frequent interaction, such as watching TV. The SURFiR remote enables users to enjoy many of the other benefits of their Apple device, such as checking emails, reading news feeds, accessing social media apps, etc., while still having convenient and intuitive control of their electronic system.

Adding a touch of style to any setting, the SURFiR features a contemporary look and feel that compliments the sleek design of the iPad, iPhone, and iPod touch. Designed to work with any of RTI’s powerful XP control processors, the controller requires minimal programming for installers, lowering overall installation costs and making it simple to integrate into any system. In addition to Apple devices, the SURFiR will offer support for Android®-based smartphones and tablets in the future.

“Many consumers love using their iPad or iPhone to access their electronics system. However, using such devices presents a few limitations, including the lack of tactile control and the numerous screen swipes it can take to perform basic functions,” said Pete Baker, vice president of sales and marketing for RTI. “We are excited to introduce our revolutionary SURFiR companion remote at this year’s CEDIA EXPO, to bring a complete, powerful control experience to Apple enthusiasts.”

The SURFiR will be available at the end of 2011 with an MSRP of $149.00. The controller will be on display at CEDIA EXPO 2011 in booth 3024.
