Zacuto’s Zwing-Away

PVC News Staff | 12/30

Keep your existing matte box

Zacuto is excited to announce the release of the Zwing-away, our highly anticipated new product for 2009.  Light (only 6.75 oz), inexpensive and simple to use, you can easily attach the Zwing-away to your already existing 15mm lightweight rods.  By then attaching your existing matte box to the Zwing-away adapter rods, your matte can quickly swing-away.  There is no need to throw away your current matte box to achieve the swing-away design, just purchase the Zwing Away adapter to convert your existing matte box to a swing away in seconds!  It’s all about keeping your camera package light, making quick camera modifications, while keeping your matte box off the ground.

“There are several Swing Away matte boxes on the market but they are typically heavy (2.5 lbs) and large, way oversized for mid-class HD cameras like the Panasonic HVX200 or the HPX170, Sony EX1 or EX3, Canon XL-H1 as well as others of this size.  This is even a greater issue when working with any of the DSLR cameras like the Nikon D90 or the Canon 5D Mark II.  In those configurations you want a tiny light matte box.  Remember, you have to counterbalance that front matte box with equal weight in the back for handheld/tripod balance. ” Says Jens Bogehegn, DP & Zacuto Co-product designer.

“Our thinking was we didn’t want to make another large swing away matte box for RED and film style cameras (those exist) we wanted to create the first ultra-light swing away adapter to allow you to use the matte box you currently have”.  Says, Steve Weiss, Director, Zacuto Co-Product designer.

Don’t miss out on what is sure to be the most talked about Zacuto product of the year.

Purchase yours in January and get a $25 Instant Rebate from Zacuto or anyone of our dealers!

A few cool things I saw at the show that didn’t fit into any other articles.

NAB is too big a show in too short a time to see more than a fraction of it. I’ve covered a few things in some depth (as have other PVC folks), but there’s plenty more that slips by without proper coverage. Here, I have a few photos…
