I attended as a fan, and a camera geek.
I was lucky enough to have attended the first week of the Beijing Olympics and all I can say is WOW!
From an attendee perspective and seeing my first Olympic Games in person, to a traveler and visiting China for the first time, to a video production geek spending way too much time watching how the Olympics was being covered by the world...the experience was one of a lifetime for me.
Bruce Johnson wrote about the job he’d like to have at the Olympics, and I’d like to add that I would have been happy with almost any job.
I really enjoyed being able to see the array of camera positions throughout each of the events I was able to attend. Having been a camera operator for Pro Football among other things, the Olympics would have been a dream job. Every shot a potential shot of a lifetime! I have great admiration for many of the camera guys as positions required fast movement, constant attention, and of course they were live for all the world to see. Some of the camera positions, like Bruce mentioned, were fantastic. Swimming comes to mind with the under water cameras, the water level boom camera, overhead cameras and more.
My wife and I stayed at the NBC hotel (Crown Plaza) across from the Birds Nest, and were able to rub elbows with the producers, directors, on-air talent and more for breakfast and late night drinks. I have to tip my hat to the entire NBC crew for doing a fantastic job presenting the Olympics in myriad of channels and online alternatives. Moreover, the friendliness of everyone we met both within NBC and in China in particular was a welcomed treat.
Now that I am home in the US and watching the rest of the Games from afar, I have a deeper appreciation for the location, the people, and fantastic show.

The question everyone hates to hear?
We’re pretty confident this new look for ProVideo Coalition is slimming, but we have to ask.
IE users will experience an issue with Quickmenu for a few days. Sorry for the trouble.

Under Construction this weekend.
...and about time really!
We’ve been working on a redesign for some time, and waiting to get rid of that silly logo and “beta” sign.
This weekend, we’ll start the process of a ground-up redesign. While we could have made a duplicate site and flipped a switch - we’ve instead decided do this in pieces to get the design up faster. So as you peruse the different sites on ProVideo Coalition, you may encounter the new design, or the old, or even a dead link (though we’re hoping against that), for the next couple of days.
So, please forgive the temporary design trauma, and pardon our temporary link goofiness.
Feel free to drop us a line with comments. sgentry (at) provideocoalition.com

Within this industry, there is a lot written about, misunderstood, and confusing information on workflow. Let’s get this straight from the start, I’m not about to fix any of that. I’m going to talk a little bit about business workflow. You know, what actually keeps your business alive.
In the past I’ve mentioned such tools as ReQall, Tripit, and others. Today I’m going to offer a few more tools that are really helping me.
First up is Jott. You may already be using Jott, if not, sign up today. It’s a competitor to ReQall, but with a lot more to offer. What Jott has done, is partnered with a ton more other sites and technologies to make their service really valuable to my daily workflow.
Here’s how it works…

Here’s another new ad model, and this one is likely to work…
There is a great article in the New York Times about a new ad model being tested by Seth MacFarlane and Google. As I understand it, the creator of Family Guy (my personal favorite show), is going to create (50) 2-minute shows that will be placed via Google Adsense. Whereby the mini cartoons will be targeting the correct demographics via Google’s code. In addition, these new cartoons will be supported by advertising within, around, and as preroll.
Besides a clever approach, I think this can only create more opportunity for video professionals. It also scares me a little about how pervasive Google has really become.
