The price is coming down from near $700 to $99.
I stopped by the Divergent Media booth to check out their updated ScopeBox version 3software. You might remember ScopeBox was a near $700 when it came along quite a few years ago. This newest version is going to be a totally different business model as price goes to $99.

The research analysts have spoken so it must be true
If you were wandering around the Twitter world this morning you might have seen discussion of a Wall Street Journal story that listed “video post production services” as one of the top 10 dying industries! But don’t be too sad fellow editors, this Business Week article lists editors as one of the Top 10 Careers of 2011! We’re damned if we do, damned if we don’t.

Everyone else just move along as you may not get this NSFW video.
This very well produced and very topical video is making the rounds today. I saw it via Twitterer beerad who is one of the co-creators. It certainly took someone some time and effort and as a post-production nerd who gets most of the references in the video I thank them for it! Motion graphics people will probably enjoy it most of all. NSFW.

Who knew you could still buy this stuff!
There’s a great video that’s been making the Twitter rounds that takes the point and shoot still camera to a new level. It’s Vivitar’s 35mm film camera. You read that right. I love a good behind the scenes / how-to / how we did it piece that breaks down a complex shot or goes into some detail on how a visual effects sequence was created. There’s always more to learn for anyone in production or post. There’s a nice 8 minute how-to that was recently posted on Vimeo that takes you through the creation of rather cool television spot for Home Depot.

A few great time-sucks from around the web
There’s a couple of really good multi-part interviews that have been airing incrementally around the Internet that I wanted to point to. If you haven’t been following them then you’re in for a real treat as you catch up. Hollywood Reinvented is currently in part 5 of an interview with Bill Warner, the man who created Avid. Flickering Myth is taking an extended look at the career of Walter Murch.

Will they ever stop? (Maybe not if they’re funny)
And here is yet another NSFW animation from the xtranormal movie site that this time http://www.xtranormal.com/watch/6876311/” title=“puts the vfx guy against the producer”>puts the vfx guy against the producer. It’s 4:31. I wonder what will be next: craft services vs. producer?
