28 Days of Quicktips Coming Again for 2011 + reader Quicktips

February 1 UPDATE:  KPL Production Services has added their timecode calculators for iOS devices to the reader submitted Quicktips prize list.

Way back in the year 2009 when I started this channel on PVC I published the 28 Days of Quicktips. It was exactly what the title says, one Quicktip a day for the entire month of February that usually pertained to either Final Cut Pro or Avid Media Composer. It’s now 2011 and February is almost upon us so I thought I’d do it again for 2011. One tip a day for the entire month. FCP, Avid and maybe a few for Adobe Premiere Pro CS5.

This year we’re also looking for user submitted Quicktips this time as well. Just send us your favorite short Quicktip and an accompanying image or two that helps illustrate the tip and we’ll try to publish those as well. And as an incentive to send us your own Quicktips I will choose what I personally judge to be the best submission and send them a free book. Details below.

Here’s how submitting reader Quicktips will work:

Write up a brief description of your favorite Final Cut Pro, Avid Media Composer or Adobe Premiere Pro Quicktip. In fact pretty much any post-production application that we use today is fair game as well. Keep it short, not really more than 200 or so words. These need to be tips that are handy and helpful that might not be entirely common knowledge. The most basic things like how to set and clear IN and OUT points won’t be published. The value of a Quicktip and its publish-worthiness will be determined entirely by me, myself and I. Each tip MUST be accompanied by at least one image to illustrate the point. If that image needs some kind caption please include that in the email as well. Images must be in jpeg format no larger than 600 pixels wide.

That’s pretty much it. Write a short Quicktip with accompanying images, email it over between February 1 and February 26. Please include your name and a link to your website or twitter name if you want that published with your Quicktip. Any other email addresses or identifying information will be kept confidential.

One person who submits a Quicktip that meets the above criteria on or before February 26, 2011 will receive their choice of ONE of the following books: Mitch Jacobson’s Mastering MultiCamera Techniques, Alexis Van Hurkman’s Color Correction Handbook, Steve Cohen’s Avid Agility, or Larry Jordan’s Final Cut Pro Power Skills. Write a short Quicktip with accompanying images, email it to .(JavaScript must be enabled to view this email address) between February 1 and February 26 and if I think it’s the best one that’s published after the 28 Days of Quicktips comes to an end you can pick any one of the above books and we’ll ship it over! Depending on how many Quicktips might be received we might have to run this series into March to get all the good ones posted. Please include your name and a link to your website or twitter link if you want that published with your Quicktip. And obviously we’ll need the tipsters email address (which we’ll get when you email the Quicktip) to contact the winner but that email address won’t be published on the website.

February 1 UPDATE:

KPL Production Services, makers of timecode calculators for iOS devices, has added one copy of each of their two currently shipping timecode calculators to the prize pool. The winner of the best reader submitted Quicktip will receive a copy of each of these timecode calculators for their iPhone and iPad.
