Avid and RED team up for a RED workflow webinar

Scott Simmons | 11/20

You can never have enough info in the brain about RED workflow

It looks like Avid and RED are teaming up for a webinar. The date is Thursday, December 2, 2010 at 11:00 am pacific and it looks to be free. The folks presenting are notable and make this event worth watching. From RED there is scheduled to be Ted Schilowitz and Deanan DaSilva. Ted is known to all RED watchers as true face of the company. He’s the guy you see at all the industry events and trade shows evangelizing their technology, often with a prototype camera in tow. Deenan is one of the regular contributors over at Reduser and if you’ve read any of his posts he certainly knows his RED.

On the Avid side of this webinar you’ve got Matt Feury who is one of the public faces at Avid. Matt is often front and center at trade shows as well as the host of Avid’s The Rough Cut podcast (iTunes link). Finally there’s Michael Philips. Michael has been a part of Avid for a long, long time and I would argue that he knows more about Media Composer and many of the other Avid products than anyone else ... anywhere. Long ago Michael created the 24p.com website which was a consulting service and a repository for information about 24p. The resources section was an early place on the ‘net that gathered a lot of 24p-based information. Michael was dealing in 24p long before the Panasonic DVX-100 was a glimmer in Panny’s eye. I’ve met Michael on several occasions and he really knows his stuff. To get a glimpse of his deep Avid knowledge just check out the Avid Workflow section of Reduser.

With that kind of talent involved in this webinar it’s bound to be a great educational opportunity for those who want to learn a little bit more about Avid Media Composer, the RED camera and proper RED workflow. And even if you aren’t an Avid user my guess is you’ll be able to take away some good information that you can use in whatever your own workflow paths are.

What will the webinar consist of? From the Avid website:

  • Learn best practices, whether you’re finishing in HD right from Media Composer or conforming in Avid DS or other finishing system
  • Find out how and where you should make color adjustments
  • Understand when to transcode media and when to use AMA (Avid Media Access)
  • Discover faster workflows with the RED Rocket accelerator card and REDCINE-X, now compatible with the Avid Artist Color control surface
  • Get your questions answered by Avid and RED experts

The Streamline Your RED Workflow webinar registration is here. And while you’re at it you can click over to the webinar archives and check out the Timeline Tips and Techniques. I picked up a few pointers from these as well.
