This has turned into a joke. Apple have no right to complain about Blu-ray because they’ve been on the board for a very long time and had the opportunity to bring up their concerns when the spec was being designed.
And despite the licensing issues, other companies seem to be managing. A lot of PC manufacturers are offering drives BTO, and companies like Adobe are offering support in their creative packages. Apple have fallen significantly behind here.

It’s already standard practice in my office to check all DVDs in a set top player. I do the same thing with BD-Rs. It’s not a big deal.

Amen Jon.
All the theories that say it’s Apple wanting to dominate with iTunes HD movies I tend to agree with though ... it sucks. There are a lot of great Blu-ray supplements and there’s no download equivalent to that. And iTunes doesn’t look near as good as Blu-ray. Apple is just being a dick about it all.

My experience (with MCE, anyway) was that you’d probably *still* be waiting for Blu-Ray if you ordered from them.
“Backordered”, “not in yet”, “got some, but sent to other customers”, “sorry, not in”...
After 3 months of utter bs, I cancelled the order… horrifically bad customer service.

Guys,
We’ve been selling an external blu-ray burner kit for $299 since the end of last year. Works great with PC or Mac. (hopefully we’ll have a version soon that includes Toast)
Current kit includes the Pioneer BDR-203 Blu-ray burner, external USB case and 6 pack of Verbatim Blu-ray media!
We’ve also got bundles with software from Adobe, Avid and more!
