money question. Assuming you don’t already own a Tangent Wave. If you wee given the choice to purchase a Wave or MX Color today what would you choose?

Color can only store 5 grade in it’s memory banks, thats why shift won’t really help you to copy/paste more grades.. but the real question is why they just didn’t add a 5th copy/grade set of buttons.. there seems to be room.
that being said, i don’t really use the copy/paste grades all that often.
I’ve been using a MC Color prototype, and my production unit along with an MC Transport arrive today.
I haven’t used the wave, but after using the MC Color for a week, I was ready to purchase.
but I really like how the trackwheels surround the trackballs, instead of being above them.

other thing i meant to say, i wanted the MC Transport in addition for a couple reasons.
I don’t like having to multiple step button sequence to change rooms. I intend to program the soft keys on the MC Transport to change between rooms in Color instead of using the Nav Key.
Also, the dedicated jog wheel will be nice, as i found myself occasionally leaving the right trackwheel in jog mode when i was trying to change the parameter i would start moving the timeline instead.

Great comment brandon on Color only accepting 5 grades in its memory banks. The hardware can’t really do more than the software I guess but with the customizable EuCon software I wonder if maybe Euphonix could have made that happen. Either way it does seem strange they didn’t add the 5th button.
And as for Yohance’s question ... that is an answer I am working on myself. Since I’ve only had the MC Color for just over a week I feel I haven’t fully explored it yet so I really wouldn’t make the choice just yet. As I said they have quite the different feel and I have to dig into the MC Color a bit more. Stay tuned.

Just received our evaluation unit this week from the Australian distributor. Been waiting some time for this and good to finally get our hands on it. Initial impression is good. I was wondering how it would handle curve editing, the mouse injection function which turns the centre track ball into a mouse track ball worked well for this.
The wheels are beautifully weighted - I would love to use these for FCP shuttling. We had the MC Transport for eval for a couple of weeks and we had major latency issues. I believe the solution is to use a separate ethernet network to the one that was handling our current network and SAN metadata traffic so we are still undecided as to its value.
Still working through the MC Color user guide to get my head around the pages and banks but I think it will be a keeper. It certainly looks and feels the part so far and you can’t argue with the price.
Looking forward to more user impressions and reviews as this surface gets into the hands of operators around the world. Also look forward to user posting their EuCon soft key setups as they develop them. I like Brandon’s suggestion of programming MC Transport keys to switch Color’s rooms.

Scott,
Thanks for this write-up! Glad I found it.
I’m definitely interested in hearing about the software customization. I managed to get my hands on the box for a few hours last December and the software had a long way to go before becoming intuitive.
I’d also like to hear how well the panel drives FCP.
BTW - I’m not laughing. I have a JL Cooper. From my short time with the MC Color, MC Color is very very enticing.
Welcome to the club!
