Handy, useful pdfs for post production

Scott Simmons | 07/17

Thanks to Zak Ray for putting these free guides together

I found a link via Twitter the other day that is worth sharing. It’s to a number of downloadable PDF files that were produced (and licensed under Creative Commons) by director/editor Zak Ray of Worldwide Studios. There’s quite the list and many of them might come in handy for the editors of the world.

Here’s the list of what’s available:

  • Common Digital Video Formats
  • Common Digital Audio Formats
  • Common Digital Graphics Formats
  • Common Digital Interfaces
  • Avid Media Composer 5 Complete Shortcut Guide
  • Final Cut Pro 7 Complete Shortcut Guide
  • Motion 4 Complete Shortcut Guide
  • Soundtrack Pro 3 Complete Shortcut Guide
  • Color 1.5 Complete Shortcut Guide
  • Compressor 3.5Complete Shortcut Guide
  • DVD Studio Pro 4 Complete Shortcut Guide

The only thing missing from that list is all the Adobe Creative Suite products! The guides are quite extensive and well put together. They took someone quite a while to complete. Click over to the Worldwide Studios page to get further links to the PDF downloads. FYI the files are hosted at a file hosting site so there’s a lot of advertising and clicks to click through to get to the download but if you’re in need of these types of guides then it’s a small price to pay wink

And just because we can here’s links to Adobe’s keyboard shortcut pages but they aren’t nice, clean printable guides so if anyone has a link to those please post it in the comments below.

I think these pdf’s are very useful, but you should choose another method for making them available for download.  Clicking on the download links cause pop-ups with EXPLICIT PORNOGRAPHIC images (on some of the pop-ups).

Unfortunately, the other hosting sites that I’ve tried just aren’t as maintenance-free as MediaFire, and I don’t have time to deal with anything that requires maintenance. I’m open to suggestions, though.

I haven’t seen these pop-up that Rowland is referring to on 3 different browsers but pop-up blocking is enabled. If you’re getting annoying pop-ups then sorry about that.

And FYI ... the Final Cut Pro shortcut guide seems to be timing out and not downloading.

I think I’ve figured out how to host them directly, can anyone confirm if they work?

Zak, just tried one of the files and they do work, load directly up in Safari as a PDF.

Any plans to make one of those for After Effects??? [hint hint!]

Don’t rule it out as a possibility!
