The National Association of Broadcasters convention is just over 1 month away (conferences April 9 - 14 and exhibits April 11 - 14). That’s hard to believe since it seems like we just wrapped NAB 2010. I’m very excited that I’ll be presenting two In Depth sessions again this year as part of the Post|Production World Conference. The conference itself is a great place to learn about this business as well as improve skills in most any area. All the information is here as well as a great overview video on the Post|Production World Conference. I’ll be teaching an advanced Avid Media Composer workshop as well as a class on Music Video workflow.
Once nice thing about the conference is that you can select a specific educational track that is only in Avid, Adobe, Final Cut Studio or Motion Graphics just to name a few. Those tracks are listed here. But if you register for the conference you’re also free to move between tracks if you want to get a little more diverse. Tuesday, 4/12/2011 10:00 AM - 01:00 PM. This class will take a look at what seasoned editors who haven’t ever used Avid Media Composer might want to know before moving over to the Avid platform. Most non-linear editing applications are very similar in basic operation but their differences can be vast when it comes to features like organization, animation and effects, audio editing and trimming. Avid Media Composer is no different in that it has it’s own subtleties and nuances that have made it the editing tool of choice for thousands of editors from corporate, to multicamera editing to feature films. The class will discuss how many post-production tasks are accomplished in Media Composer and contrast Avid’s techniques with those of other software packages. While geared toward experienced editors this class can serve as an editor’s first introduction to Media Composer or as a refresher course for an editor wanting to move back to Avid’s products after working with other applications. Target Audience: Editors who have a working knowledge of non-linear editing and application packages such as Apple Final Cut Pro or Adobe Premiere Pro and want to learn more about Avid Media Composer.
Wednesday, 4/13/2011 10:00 AM - 01:00 PM This class will walk through various steps involved in the successful post-production of a music video. While the class will have a more post-production centered focus a number of production related topics will be discussed as well including formats, audio playback, slates and coverage. Post-production topics will include file preparation and transcoding, syncing, grouping and multi-clipping, offline, approvals and online. Music videos have a very specific workflow for post-production that can make the entire filmmaking process easier (as well as more fun) with a little time spent in pre-production. We’ll discuss the pre-production preparation needed in order to make the post flow more smoothly. We’ll also talk about specific things to look for during the shoot that can make life easier in post as well. Whether you’re a director, editor or producer (or all three) you’ll gain some good knowledge to help in your entire music video production process. Target Audience: Editors who want to understand the music video workflow from start to finish as well as directors and filmmakers wishing to make the move into music video production. Both of these sessions should be a lot of fun. These are In-Depth sessions as well and they run for three hours which means we’ll have a lot of time to really dig into the topic at hand.
