Reminder: Basics of Avid for the FCP editor articles

Ever since the release of Final Cut Pro X I’ve gotten quite a few emails and messages asking about resources for Final Cut Pro editors migrating to Avid Media Composer. While I don’t know of a specific switching book I thought it might be helpful to point out a couple of articles that I published here on the Editblog a couple of years ago.

The first article was called The Basics of Avid Media Composer for a Final Cut Pro Editor and covered creating a project, the keyboard, bins, media, making an edit, segment mode and trim mode among other things.

The second article was called More Avid Media Composer for the Final Cut Pro Editor and covered the project window, more about bins, consolidating, EDLs, lists, BITC, the timecode window and modifying clips.

Download the free Media Composer demo and give it a try for a month if you’re thinking about jumping from the FCP ship. The CEO of Avid recently announced that Avid will extend the $995 Final Cut Pro to Media Composer crossgrade offer through September. Adobe is starting their own switcher program as well.

If you’re looking for a good Avid Media Composer book then Steve Cohen’s Avid Agility is a great one to get.
