Clint Eastwood: Master Filmmaker at Work is based on interviews with a stellar array of talented filmmakers and actors-including Meryl Streep, Matt Damon, Leonardo DiCaprio, Gene Hackman, Hilary Swank, Forest Whitaker, Morgan Freeman, Sean Penn, Matt Damon, and Ken Watanabe-who explain how and why Eastwood became the filmmaking legend he is today. "Clint is not only the most emotionally invested filmmaker we have today, but also the most eclectic in his openness in considering all genres," states Spielberg in the foreword.

The book is also illustrated with hundreds of production photos, posters, concept art, and film frames, many of which have never been published before. Eastwood and his team of cinematographers, producers, editors, stuntmen, sound editors, writers, art directors, and location managers all share their experiences working on his award-winning films and explain their widely heralded process through the various stages of filmmaking. With coverage of all of Eastwood's thirty-two films, the book is a full retrospective of his directorial efforts to date.

Clint Eastwood grew up in the Depression-era 1930s, became a television actor, and then a Hollywood star before transforming himself into a filmmaker. Over time, he joined a very short, exclusive list of lifetime achievers in the world of cinema, on the strength of such widely honored efforts as The Outlaw Josey Wales, Bird, Unforgiven, Mystic River, Million Dollar Baby, Letters from Iwo Jima, and Gran Torino.

Within the cinema community, Eastwood is universally admired for his approach to filmmaking. With his talent for innovation and craftsmanship, the elegant simplicity of his creative and technical direction, as well as his loyalty to-and trust in-crew and friends, Eastwood has, over the decades, reinvigorated whole genres of cinema and character types.
