Digital Juice Releases New Orbit Micro Compact Camera Dolly
A portable dolly system for capturing smooth low-angle and tabletop tracking shots
By PVC News Staff | July 12, 2012
Digital Juice®, the highly acclaimed developer of digital content and professional camera gear and accessories today announced the release of the Orbit Micro dolly system for video-capable cameras. The device allows users to capture smooth professional low-angle or tabletop tracking shots on any smooth surface -- without the hassle of larger, more expensive equipment.
"Designed for use with smartphones, small camcorders, point and shoot, micro 4/3 or full DSLR cameras, the Orbit Micro allows you to shoot from new perspectives, letting you experiment with low angles, close-up tabletop work or stop motion animations, or simply giving you that stable tracking shot you need in situations where traditional tracks and dollies won't fit or are too heavy and expensive to use," says Viv Beason, President of Digital Juice.
The Orbit Micro's baseplate and thumbscrew knobs are made of high quality aluminum with a matte black anodized finish. The baseplate features three 1/4"-20 threaded holes where you can mount your camera or ball head/camera combination as well as any compatible accessory needed such as articulating arms, portable lights, viewfinders and monitors. The 63mm/2.5" polyurethane inline-skate style wheels have fluid sealed ball bearings and an attractive stylish look. The total weight of the unit is a mere 1 pound.
The two adjustable axles on the Orbit Micro can be set to allow you to track in straight or curved lines. The arc of the motion can be set using the 2 locking ergonomic thumbscrew knobs for broad open curves or for motion in a full 360 degree circle around the subject. Hash marks printed on the surface of the dolly are provided as a guide, allowing you to adjust the two axles at a roughly equivalent angle for more repeatable and dependable arced motion.
"The Orbit Micro gives the photographer and videographer the opportunity for unique cinematic shots that would not be possible otherwise," says Beason. "It can add professional style to an otherwise mundane product shot or add drama by allowing you to get closer or shoot from a lower angle than any other tracking device would allow. It can also provide a stable shake-free platform for a subtle straightforward tracking shot."
