Welcome to Information Technology 101!
Information Technology for Production and Post
By CameronORourke | January 31, 2008
With information technology (IT) becoming a larger and larger part of the media business, the editors at PVC want to help you get the most out of your computer systems. But where to find a certified "geek" who also speaks video? Right here!
I've been in the IT field for over twenty years, working in and around Silicon Valley, most recently at Oracle Corporation. But I'm also equally at home in the media realm: I produce (and sometimes direct) short form video and other multimedia at Oracle, program in Flash, and work on Visual Effects shots in my spare time.
I'm going to focus on all the technology you need to go from a 1-person outfit, to a small post-production facility. Things like: storage, file management, workflow, managing noise/power/heat, networking, asset management, remote access, and render farms.
Along the way, I'll be looking to you to ask questions, and let me know whether I'm going too fast, or too slow.
Thanks for visiting. It should be fun.

Hey Cameron,
I’m wondering if you will be covering any information on how to set up the best After Effects CS3 render farms? Anything running on OSX that’s worth investing in yet?
