This tips same me a lot of time watching FCPX redraw filmstrip thumbnails

By Scott Simmons | February 01, 2015

For some reason most all of my Final Cut Pro X job seem to revolved around talking head interviews. This is fine and we can tell some good stories from interviews but I’ve found that the redrawing of thumbnails in the FCPX timeline can take up a lot of time throughout the day. I’ve sped that up with this tip.

"Working with Photoshop Guides" for Media Composer editors

By Kevin P. McAuliffe | January 31, 2015

Media Compser editors know that our Title safe and Picture safe guides are an essential part of our titling workflow.  Working in Photoshop is no different, but sometimes I see editors run into problems with their guides in Photoshop, and just need a little push in the right direction. Read More

28 Days of Quicktips 2015 -  #28daysofquicktips

A tip a day for 28 days. Send your own and maybe win a prize!

By Scott Simmons | January 31, 2015

Way, way back in the year 2009 when I started this channel on PVC I published the 28 Days of Quicktips. And then we did it again in 2011 and included reader quicktips. It was exactly what the title says, one Quicktip a day for the entire month of February that somehow related to post-production. We’re going to do it again for 2015. Like we did in 2011, this year we're also looking for user submitted Quicktips. Just send us your favorite short Quicktip and an accompanying image or two that helps illustrate the tip and we'll try to publish those as well. And as an incentive to send us your own Quicktips I will choose what I personally judge to be the best submission and send them a free copy of the Color Correction Handbook. Details below.

Sports Solutions white paper for NewTek LatAm/EMEA

Sports Solutions white paper for NewTek LatAm/EMEA

I wrote a new white paper for NewTek Latin America, and Europe/Middle East/Africa is now requesting an English translation.

By Allan Tépper | January 30, 2015

After the great popularity of the NewTek New Scopes white paper I published for NewTek US, the Latin American department then contracted me to translate/localize it for its own region. Later, the NewTek Latin American division requested a series of other white papers, starting with the NewTek Sports Solutions white paper. Despite its rather narrow title, this white paper will also be quite valuable for anybody planning a live multicamera video system. Shortly thereafter, the NewTek EMEA (Europe, the Middle East and Africa) division requested an English translation/localization. Ahead you’ll find the table of contents and more.

For my December lens tests with Veydras and Rokinons (among others), I needed some Rokinons, otherwise it wouldn't really be a test with Veydras and Rokinons (among others). I also needed a PL-to-MFT mount adapter, and a Nikon-F-to-Canon-EF adapter. None of these were items stocked by... Read More

AE + C4D: Some Minor Assembly Required

AE + C4D: Some Minor Assembly Required

Properly setting up your AE and C4D Lite projects to best work together

By Chris and Trish Meyer | January 29, 2015

We’re fans of the Live 3D Pipeline workflow between After Effects CC and CINEMA 4D Lite. And Adobe has automated a large portion of the process to get the two to work together: In After Effects, create a New > Layer > MAXON CINEMA 4D File, and not only is a layer created in AE with the CINEWARE plug-in applied (where all the magic happens), C4D Lite is also opened with a new project linked to that particular instance of the plug-in for live rendering. However: At least as of AE CC 2014.2, not all of the necessary information about the AE composition is passed onto the C4D project, and neither is the AE project configured to match some assumptions C4D is making. Therefore, it’s up to you to fill in or correct the necessary parameters.

In Guatemala, Shogun reverses 29.97PsF pulldown for 8-camera live-switched show via Datavideo HS2800

Thanks to the reverse telecine feature in the Shogun and other Átomos recorders, Staff/HDTV got its wish.

By Allan Tépper | January 27, 2015

Staff/HDTV in Guatemala really wanted to record pure progressive 1080/29.97p for its multi-camera TV shoots. They strongly considered NewTek’s TriCaster lineup, but TriCaster didn’t offer any option with 8 HD-SDI inputs in their desired price range, so instead they chose Datavideo’s HS2800 mobile studio, which starts with 8 HD-SDI inputs and is expandable to 12. The initial problem was that the SE–2800 contained in the HS2800 package only handles interlaced 1080i, but a workflow I previously published solved the problem and allowed Staff/HDTV to have their cake and eat it too. Details ahead.
