5th KindTM, an industry leader in production asset management and collaborative workflow software for movies and studios, announced today integration partnerships with Codex Digital, the leading developer of digital media recorders and media management systems for film and television production, and Signiant, provider of intelligent file movement software for the media and entertainment industry. 5th Kind also announced today that their cost-effective solution to ingesting, organizing and commenting on production dailies is available online. These two key partnerships along with convenient dailies access will expand 5th Kind’s workflow solutions for on-set and studio clients.

5th Kind’s most recent integration with Codex Digital is with the Codex Vault. The Codex Vault is a standalone solution requiring no external drives or processing. It has its own internal processor and the capability to produce deliverables in all formats required for dailies review, post production and archival purposes. 5th Kind’s CORE software automatically ingests, organizes and provides web-based access to dailies packages, automated camera reports, and tracking of deliverables generated by the Vault.

“This workflow takes full advantage of the possibilities of file?based production, providing producers with powerful tools to manage their assets and review them in a secure, flexible web environment,” said Codex Digital Managing Director Marc Dando. “It’s a boost to collaboration and efficient production.”

Signiant’s partnership with 5th Kind will integrate Signiant’s accelerated file movement capabilities with 5th Kind’s CORE platform, enabling dispersed production teams to upload, download and share any digital file quickly, securely and more reliably than ever before. One key Signiant-5th Kind deployment is at a Los Angeles based studio, where it is used to move time-sensitive VFX, audio and 3D conversions across the supply chain.

“We are pleased to work together with 5th Kind to serve the needs of the media and entertainment community with capabilities that simplify and centralize access to media and materials in ways that basic point-to-point file transfer or traditional FTP solutions simply cannot,” said Matt Thomas, Western Region Account Director for Signiant. “By seamlessly integrating with Signiant’s accelerated digital file movement capabilities, CORE increases user productivity while significantly reducing labor and overhead costs.”

Deployed on internal networks or accessed via the cloud, 5th Kind’s scalable CORE asset management system features flexible modules to organize, search, view, track and tag any type of digital file, including footage and visual effects (VFX), and a flexible communication module for ongoing team collaboration. It is designed to seamlessly integrate with production tools and services such as Codex and Signiant.

“Dailies are just a small portion of what our system provides, and our online dailies feature is great way to introduce the power of the broader system to those who have yet to experience it.” said Steve
Cronan, 5th Kind’s founder and CEO. “At $500 per week, per production for unlimited users and unlimited files, hosted securely in our private cloud, we aim to provide productions the best in efficiency and cost savings.”

5th Kind’s hosted dailies solution works on almost any web-browser and mobile device, allowing productions to upload camera files from on-set tools such as the Codex Vault, Colorfront or a post house. When required, 5th Kind’s CORE software will transcode clips in the cloud upon ingest, creating H.264 hi and lo-res web proxies to stream through 5th Kind’s viewer for accessibility anywhere internet service is available. Film-based productions typically process each day’s shoot, allowing the lab to generate the H.264 proxies for streamlined ingestion.

Dailies users will receive an email link connecting them to each day’s package of dailies. Security is paramount to 5th Kind’s service, and upon logging into the system, users can watch SD or HD clips, all automatically watermarked on-the-fly with their own name. Each dailies package is tracked, each viewer’s actions are logged, and dailies are securely streamed without ever being downloaded to a user’s computer. Reviewers can leave comments in the system about individual clips or about the day’s package as whole. If CORE’s Communication Module is employed by the production, viewers can draw on video clips and use their mic to leave frame-specific audio comments.

Finally, mobile device viewing is supported with a web-based interface designed for devices like iPads, iPhones and Androids, providing streamlined review features such as swiping up or down to approve or reject a clip, and swiping left or right to advance to the next clip or reload a previous one.

“It’s our goal to deliver the broadest asset management and workflow solution – from script to screen – tailored for the entertainment industry,” said Steve Cronan, CEO of 5th Kind. “Our collaboration with Codex Digital and Signiant gives our production and enterprise media customers the levels of centralized control, speed and automation that they require, both on-set and in studio workflows.”
