I have already published three articles about Android-based audio/video production (links ahead). So far, I have done all of those review articles with my OnePlus One phone/phablet. Due to a commercial betrayal covered previously, OnePlus One users must now choose whether to upgrade to Lollipop (the name for Android version 5) either by upgrading to Cyanomagen 12S, or via the new OxygenOS from OnePlus. I was on the fence until I read a recent Forbes article about Cyanomagen’s future.
In that article, Meet Cyanogen, the startup that wants to steal Android from Google, Cyanomagen CEO Kirt McMaster was quoted as saying: “We’re putting a bullet through Google’s head.”
I find his comment to be stupid, hostile, and violent. Google is the one that makes Android AOSP, which is Kirt McMaster’s free raw material for Cyanomagen (whether or not he substitutes Google services for Microsoft’s). Kirt McMaster would gain nothing by killing the source of his free raw material. If I didn’t already believe that he is a lost cause, I’d tell him to measure his words and instead speak about “Cyanomagen’s improved version Android”, rather than making a silly, hostile, and violent statement to the press. If there had been any mistake, I’m sure that Forbes would have already corrected the article. This is the same Cyanomagen that betrayed OnePlus in India, after OnePlus was the first manufacturer to include Cyanomagen in a handset from the factory. That first betrayal might be understood as just “business”, but his statement about the bullet is not forgivable. So I invested the time and learned how to install OxygenOS, which is based on Android 5.02 and pretty much stock, like a Nexus experience. I am glad I did. Now my OnePlus One has new life. I also sent two translation issues (I use my phone in Castilian) to OnePlus via the feedback app that OnePlus One offers for OxygenOS users.

My latest book (paperback + ebook)
My most recent book is available in two languages, and in paperback as well as an ebook. The ebook format is Kindle, but even if you don’t have a Kindle device, you can read Kindle books on many other devices using a free Kindle app. That includes iPad, Android tablets, Mac computers, and Windows computers. Although generally speaking, Kindle books are readable on smartphones like Androids and iPhones, I don’t recommend it for this particular book since it contains both color photos and color comparison charts. The ebook is also DRM-free.
