If you haven’t read any of my detailed articles about Hindenburg Journalist and Hindenburg Journalist PRO audio editing software, I’ll supply links ahead. Today I am writing a short article to explain how busy the Hindenburg team has been, adding support for MacOS Sierra 10.12 for both versions; adding a key feature to the standard version of Hindenburg Journalist and a new feature to the PRO one. (All versions of Hindenburg desktop editing software are also available for Windows.) Unlike one very popular audio editing tool which keeps Mac users at least 6 months behind in MacOS operating system versions, this is the second time I see Hindenburg ready for the new MacOS version at its launch date. I first saw this with MacOS El Capitán and now with Sierra. Ahead I’ll cover the added features.
–16 LUFS loudness level for on-demand radio & podcast levels added to the standard Hindenburg Journalist
In my first Hindenburg article review (Meet the Hindenburg family of audio production/editing tools) I covered perceived loudness as opposed to Gain (Amplitude). Here is a summary:
Perceived loudness is the characteristic of sound that is primarily a psychological correlation of physical strength (amplitude). There is an evolving set of standards to measure perceived loudness, and to determine maximum settings.
Although three different LUFS levels have been included for sometime with Hindenburg Journalist PRO (including –24 LUFS, –23 LUFS and –16 LUFS), none have been included with the standard version of Hindenburg Journalist before 1.6. Now, perhaps one of the most desired LUFS levels, the one for on-demand radio and audio podcasting, has been added. That one is –16 LUFS and it now comes with the much lower priced US$95 version. Loudness Normalization Export to the “Podcast Standard” level of –16 LUFS is now included in Hindenburg Journalist.
To my knowledge, Hindenburg Journalist (standard) is now the most affordable desktop software with -16 normalization capability built-in. I have been publishing my CapicúaFM show (player below) at -16 LUFS for some time now.
New noise reduction in the PRO version

The above video was created by Hindenburg.
Hindenburg says:
Traditional noise reduction plugins help reduce unwanted noise in your audio recordings. But they generally have geeky interfaces and require a good technical understanding of audio engineering to use correctly.
Hindenburg’s new Noise Reduction effect is both powerful and simple to use. It will automatically identify not only persistent noise, but also hum and hiss, then calculate how best to reduce them.
In keeping with our mantra “It’s all about the Story!!”, our technically magical Noise Reduction effect presents you with a single dial – all you need to do is turn it up until your recording sounds best.
Please update Hindenburg to 1.6 before updating your Mac to 10.12 Sierra
For best results, please update Hindenburg to 1.6 (and all of your other programs) before updating your Mac to 10.12 Sierra. If you didn’t update to Hindenburg version 1.6 before updating your Mac to MacOS Sierra, you should download the latest version directly from the Hindenburg download page, since one of the changes in Sierra affects the buttons, so you cannot complete the built-in “Check for updates” process.
