DUTTI DOLLY, the dolly known for its unique and elegant design is getting an upgrade to its color palette, and IBC 2017 will see the debut of the new colors.

Originally designed by James Saldutti, a Hollywood Dolly Grip known as “Dutti”, who needed a dolly that could set up fast, get low and fit into tight places, the DUTTI DOLLY has already expanded the creativity of the dolly shot, and now grips have more of a choice in finding a dolly that matches their personal style. Anodized blue and green have been added to the line up along with the original anodized silver, red and black.

Regardless of color, the DUTTI DOLLY remains consistent in its versatility. It can be mounted on the ground, on stands or apple boxes, over or underslung without the wobble seen on other small dollies. The compact footprint is easy to set-up and transport, yet large and durable enough for standing or sitting applications, and is compatible with mounting tripods, bazookas, tilt plates and other accessories.

Saldutti actually created it for cinematographer James Muro ASC, who took it everywhere on Rush Hour 3. He now uses it constantly on Longmire. “It simply makes for an intuitive operating experience,” Muro says. “Where there is not a lot of discussion, not a lot of laying track, not a lot of big equipment. With the Dutti Dolly I can be in and out of the location quickly and still have a massive amount of production value, just as if I had all the big gear.”

Key Grip Adrian “Ace” Dominguez (Speechless, NCIS, Ray Donovan) loves the Dutti Dolly, not just for its many configurations but also because it’s manufactured by Matthews. “The array of accessories that weren’t previously available makes it even more useful,” he explains. “Add to that it is fantastic for small, tight working spaces. The design has allowed me to get low to the ground and also have full camera movement. I’ve also found it very useful on handheld shows when the camera operators want to make a lateral move but don’t want to fight the wheel change of a traditional ‘butt dolly’.”

DUTTI DOLLY rolls extremely low to the ground at under 2-inches in height, rides on eight inline skate wheels mounted in pairs to the ½” thick aluminum plate. The sleek design allows the operator to do hard whip pans and quick tilts because of its width, length and weight. It will roll directly on any smooth surface, speed rail or on tubing found in a local hardware store such as round, square, angle or PVC. It fits into tight spaces such as airplane and bus aisles where conventional dollies cannot fit. It is great for the long take, stunts or poor man’s process. And the rigging capabilities are endless due to the numerous tapped holes on the dolly board.
