Canon has announced more details about its activities at IBC – the leading global trade show for media and broadcast professionals to be held at the RAI exhibition and convention centre in Amsterdam, the Netherlands, from 12-16 September 2014 – and the news are exciting for those interested into Canon’s products.
The whole range of EOS Digital Cinema Cameras – the EOS C500, C300, C100 and the EOS-1D C 4K DSLR is going to be there not just to look at but also to try. The recently announced XF205 and XF200 HD camcorders will also be on display, along with the entire line-up of Canon’s XF-series and XA-series camcorders.
For broadcast professionals the IBC will also be the place to go to be able to get ‘hands-on’ with over 100 Canon television and cinematography lenses with a vast array of focal lengths and types, from ENG broadcast lenses to Cinema and EF lenses including the CN7x17 KAS S, Canon’s first cine zoom lens with servo drive.
Canon will demonstrate at IBC 2014 the advantages of its latest firmware upgrades for its EOS C500 and EOS C300 Digital Cinema Cameras, DP-V3010 4K reference display and Cinema RAW Development (CRD) software, which are designed to better integrate both the acquisition and management of 4K footage into all workflow situations. The demonstrations will include live demos of the BT.2020 colour space for Ultra High Definition (UHD) production, which will be supported via the new firmware for the C500 and DP-V3010. Canon’s DP-V3010 4K professional reference display will also be upgraded to support content shot in BT.2020.
According to Canon, “the firmware upgrade for Canon’s Cinema RAW Development software – CRD v1.3 – will continue to improve on-set RAW workflow, adding BT.709 and DCI-P3 playout options, and EDL support. Improved performance will also be on offer thanks to a collaboration between Canon and Intel. Intel’s Integrated Native Developer Experience RAW Media Accelerator, will enable fast de-bayering and drop-free playback of the resulting 4K footage (up to 24fps only) when using a laptop equipped with Intel Iris Pro Graphics. This compact, low power solution will be at IBC showcasing that it will be possible to edit, develop, play back and output 4K RAW footage using a single, suitably specified, laptop.”
In addition to Canon’s on-stand experts, an impressive line-up of industry professionals will be appearing on the Canon IBC presentation stage, from 12 to 15 September, to present on an exciting array of topics, share their experiences of using Canon products and answer visitors’ questions. Among the guest speakers, the experienced filmmaker and Canon Explorer Phil Coates will talk about his experiences shooting with the Canon XF205 camcorder and reveal how key features of the camera aid his work. Fellow Canon Explorer Sébastien Devaud will be talking about shooting 4K content with the Canon EOS C500 and EOS-1D C and how shifting to 4K has impacted upon his work.
Also appearing on the Canon IBC presentation stage will be cameraman and video editor Ming Yeung (Getty Images). He will explain why the EOS-1D C DSLR is a perfect, versatile camera for content creation due to its combination of ease of use, still image capabilities and 4K video quality. In addition, filmmaker, and former Berlinale Talent, Simon Pitts will be talking about his experience of the Talents programme and shooting with Canon Cinema EOS cameras.
