You settings are exceptionally important inside of Media Composer. They are what are going to give you access to all the bells and whistles that will make the difference between a slow edit and unhappy client, to a fast edit, and an exstatic client!
When it comes to your settings inside of Media Composer, there are so many of them. How are you going to know what to check, and what not to? Well, in the lesson, Kevin P McAuliffe starts out by showing you the proper way to import setting from a different Media Composer machine, and the talks about how you can find where the Avid stores them on both Mac and Windows. Then, he starts to delve in-depth into the actually settings themselves, and makes sure to focus on only those settings you'll want to adjust and by doing so, he streamlines your workflow, to get the best possible performance out of Media Composer, and the best possible speed out of you. Many editors who jump into NLE’s and start editing right away, don’t realize what is going on under the hood, and how powerful your settings can be. Simple things like Autosave can be found in your settings, and by simply stopping and taking a look around, quickly, before you start editing, not only will you find these hidden gems, but you will also gain a greater understanding of how Media Composer works, and how you can make it work for you. I normally tell all editors I train, that they should keep a zipped copy of their settings in their e-mail, so when they are editing on location, they can simply log into their e-mail, download the settings, copy them over, and in a matter of seconds, they will be editing with speed of their most comfortable editing system, in a new location.
