The world’s first ultra-wide 34-inch curved IPS monitor from Acer with NVIDIA G-SYNC technology is now available in the United States, with a price of $1,299.99.
Sold under the name Predator X34, the new monitor is announced as a dream monitor for gaming enthusiasts, as it offers an ultra-wide 21:9 display providing a high 3440×1440@60Hz resolution, a 100,000,000:1 max contrast ratio, 300 cd/m2 brightness and 1.07 billion colors. The 60Hz refresh rate supports overclocking to 100Hz for the ultimate in stunning visual effects without motion blur, states Acer in the information available.
The wide field of view increases perceived area of vision compared to a flat display of the same size. The 34-inch curved design with up to 178-degree viewing angles provides crisp picture quality from almost every angle. By wrapping around the user’s field of vision, the 21:9 curved panel envelops the user. In the case of gamers, the monitor makes them feel like they’re truly a part of the action.
With a zero frame design to maximize viewing area, the monitor offers two 7W speakers enhanced with powerful DTS sound to provide 14W of stereo dynamic audio for thrilling sound effects. While these may not offer the best sound around, they are enough for many uses and allow for a cleaner desk, something professional users may appreciate. Or gamers that also use the monitor for work.
The curved 34-inch IPS 21:9 ultra-wide QHD is available with NVIDIA G-SYNC, which synchronizes the monitor’s refresh rate to the GPU’s render rate, so images are displayed when they’re rendered. It also eliminates screen tearing and minimizes display stutter and input lag. In addition, the fast 4ms response time ensures actions or dramatic transitions are rendered smoothly without smearing or ghosting effects.
“We believe the Predator X34 offers one of the smoothest, most thrilling game experiences available today,” said Charlotte Chen, Acer America product manager. “NVIDIA G-SYNC technology and up to 100Hz overclocking deliver extremely sharp moving pictures, while 14W stereo audio enhanced with DTS Sound enriches gameplay with powerful sound effects.”
Although presented as a monitor for gaming, the Predator X34 can also be used for work. Acer says that the monitor offers 100 percent sRGB, which provides the highest color accuracy and color space reproduction required by gamers, design professionals and photo enthusiasts. In a world where many users distribute their work exclusively online – like HD video and design for the web -, the coverage of the sRGB color gamut is sufficient, and the 100% coverage of sRGB this monitor presents seems adequate for most purposes.
Acer’s Eye Protect’s flicker-less, blue light filter, ComfyView and low-dimming technologies decrease eye fatigue, so the monitor can be used for longer periods of time. A cable management hole in the triangular stand supporting the monitor keeps cables organized and I/O ports are positioned on the rear side for easy access. Powerful connectivity includes HDMI, DisplayPort 1.2 and four USB hub 3.0 ports.
Outfitted with an adjustable stand, the Acer Predator X34 provides optimal comfort with ergonomic tilt from –5 to +35 degrees and height adjustments up to 5 inches. A VESA wall mount option saves valuable desk space, while the zero frame design already mentioned maximizes viewing area and allows for better use of multi-monitor setups for an immersive experience.
