I recently photographed actress Clementine Ford (“The L Word”, “The Young and the Restless”, also Cybill Shepherd’s daughter) for Curve magazine. I love working for Curve, they interview interesting people and give me the opportunity to create whatever images I feel like. I never see the interview first. And usually I don’t talk to the personality before the shoot, as it’s all done with their “people”.
Even with only dealing with her PR person (who was nice and very helpful) beforehand, Clementine couldn’t have been nicer or a better team player. She was so easy to work with and really fun. And despite claiming she was tough to work with, I found the opposite to be true. The people you meet via photography, one of the many reasons I crave working so much.
In these situations, I usually rent a studio, often one I’ve not worked in before. I do usually go see the studio beforehand, but in this case I didn’t. I try to pick studios and locations that suit the needs of the images I want to create and are often centrally located. In Los Angeles that usually means downtown, Hollywood, or somewhere in between.
Had a friend come down and shoot some video for this one, which will be the first of many. Already have another behind-the-scenes video “in the can”, with some fun ideas after that as well. Hope to keep them coming, would love your thoughts and feedback and anything you’d like to see in future videos. This one is more of an overview, hope to add more education in the future.
