There’s something truly groundbreaking (skybreaking?) getting a sneak preview at CES this week in Las Vegas. It’s a quadcopter that has two hemispherical cameras that take a full 720-degree 1080p/30fps video of the area you fly it in. This…. is going to be huge!
There is a new “bird” in town and it sees EVERYTHING!
The Tayzu 720 (unofficial product name) is using patented camera technology provided by ICRealtime – a company with a history of developing camera technology for security and surveillance systems – that utilizes a two opposing mounted cameras (one top/one bottom) on a small quadcopter chassis to provide a full 720-degree spherical video of wherever you fly it.
The Tayzu 720 quadcopter is still in development and design with several patents pending and is reported to be available later this year. Tayzu Robotics, the manufacturer claims that the production unit will be able to fly indoors with special props as well as outdoors, be waterproof for water take offs and landings and will work with a standard RC controller and/or with an iPad app. Several design features are pending so details on this craft are still limited, but the camera technology has been in development for some time and is a proven process for both live streaming and recorded immersive VR.
The playback will provide a full spherical account of the recorded 720-degree video, either editable for regular video production or with an app/player that will allow the viewer to control what portion of the spherical video they chose to focus on.
