Paving the way for IBC and Photokina, Canon introduced today their new flagship 4K cameras for the Cinema EOS System, the EOS C700 (EF/PL) and EOS C700 GS PL, along with two professional displays. A new 4K UHD XC15 completes the collection of products announced.
The EOS C700 cameras are able to record 4K DCI or 4K UHD and capture creative slow motion 4K video footage internally with high frame rates of up to 59.94P/50P and 2K up to 200p/240p (sensor crop mode), or 4K RAW up to 100P/120P, to the optional dockable CODEX RAW recorder. Building on the Cinema EOS System range, the powerful video cameras are modular in design, to adapt to all shooting requirements and include support for the Apple ProRes format for the first time. Designed for fast-moving subjects and action scenes, the EOS C700 GS PL is also the first Cinema EOS camera with a global shutter.
The new model in the XC family is the XC15 – a compact, 4K (UHD) and Full HD video camcorder with stills capability, aimed at content creators such as news gatherers and independent or documentary filmmakers. Following in the footsteps of the popular XC10, the XC15 combines the best elements from its predecessor with new features and functionality, including a microphone adapter with dual XLR inputs for professional audio capture, quick autofocus and a 24p frame rate option for cinematographers.
Canon announced also two professional displays, designed to meet the needs of 4K broadcast and cinema production workflows. The DP-V2420 is a 24-inch high-luminance reference display ideal for High Dynamic Range (HDR) content creation, whilst the DP-V1710 is an industry-first 17-inch professional display created for outside broadcasting vans and studios. The models combine Canon’s image processing engine with a proprietary backlight system and an IPS LCD panel to deliver incredible colour reproduction, high-resolution and high-contrast visuals.
