Its that time of year again where you’re trying to come up with gift ideas for the people in your life. Well, if you know anyone who’s interested in photography I’ll be posting a few articles with gift ideas that will cost you from nothing but your time, up to several thousand dollars.
The first recommendations are grouped around learning photography.
Idea #1~3 – If you’re a total newbie or a top professional you can’t beat the deal of a month (or year’s) subscription to a learning site like :
www.Lynda.com – Video tutorials by some of the big names in the photography, Photoshop and other Adobe products, and just about everything under the sun. – $25 a month or $250 for the year.
www.KelbyTraining.com – Scott Kelby himself is a top source of an amazing range of information and tips. He’s one of the top authors on Amazon. Plus there are tons of video tutorials by other top experts in the field of photography – $19.95 for a month or $199 a year.
www.PhotoshopUser.com – This is the site for the National Association of Photoshop Professionals. (NAPP) For approximately $99 for the year you get a subscription to their awesome magazine but also access to all kinds of special tutorials and discounts on all sorts of things.
Idea #4 – Get a year’s gift subscription to your photographer’s favorite photo magazine, be sure you find out which ones they like and if they already have a subscription. Approx $10~$25
Idea #5 – This can be an expensive one but well worth the money in improving a photographer’s work. Send them to a photo workshop. Santa Fe Workshops is one of the most respected for nature photographers but there are dozens of others especially geared towards wedding, fashion or glamour. Just search online for the subject. I.E. Glamour photography workshop, fashion photography workshop, nature photography workshop. Add in your state if you want to stay local.
