Cooke Optics has announced that they will soon offer multiple mounts for the miniS4/i cinema primes. Mounts will include Canon EF, Nikon F, Sony E and MFT (Panasonic, Blackmagic, etc.) allowing cameras with these mounts to get the “Cooke Look” natively.
The new mounts can be retrofitted to any miniS4/i prime, not just new ones: simply unbolt the existing PL mount and bolt on the mount of your choice (shimming as required, of course).
Note that the mounts are designed for mirrorless cameras; if you use a conventional DSLR you may have to lock the mirror up before attaching a Cooke… or perform more drastic surgery to ensure the lens will fit (shudder).
The new mounts will be on the Cooke stand at IBC 2016 and will ship in October; miniS4/i primes ordered thereafter can be obtained with the mount of your choice factory-fitted.
Over on newsshooter.com, Matt Allard asks, “does the Canon 5D mkIV mark the end of DSLR video?” With this Cooke announcement—never mind the rumors of a GH5 with 10-bit 4:2:2 internal recording—I think we can safely say that Betteridge’s Law applies. 🙂
