Nu Skin Enterprises Gains Control of Assets with WebNative Suite
via XINET – Digital Asset Management: Customer Case Studies.
Founded in 1984, Nu Skin Enterprises, Inc. develops innovative anti-aging skin care and nutrition products. The company sells more than 200 products, including the Galvanic Spa System II, Tru Face Essence Ultra, LifePak Nano and the g3 nutrition beverage. Based in the United States, Nu Skin is a global direct selling company, operating in 50 markets throughout Asia, the Americas, and Europe with more than 760,000 independent sales representatives.
Due to the multitude of sales representatives selling in so many different markets worldwide, Nu Skin’s design, photography, marketing, events, science, and regulatory departments regularly need access to multiple types of digital assets. With more than 600,000 files ranging from photo images to InDesign and QuarkXPress layout files and videos being accessed by an average of 75 people a week—a number that increases whenever Nu Skin holds its distributor conventions—Nu Skin struggled to find a way to provide controlled access to their files.
With WebNative® Suite, Nu Skin is now able to control access to certain types of files and customize what users see when they log into the system. This is key when Nu Skin sets up a product showcase, which requires collaboration between multiple departments, brand consistency across all collateral and marketing materials, and confirmation that previous work is not duplicated. Staff members from each department are able to log onto their customized area and access their permitted file set.
Nu Skin also found that WebNative Suite tools like Custom Image Order and Asset Timer helped increase efficiency and improve management of their active production files. With Custom Image Order, users can quickly download and repurpose images from the files on the server directly to their desktop. Nu Skin is actively engaged in humanitarian work with their “Force for Good” and “Nourish the Children” projects, so when the PR department wanted to access 20 photos from a recent trip to Malawi for a PowerPoint presentation, Custom Image Order simplified the whole process.
“Rather than having to download and convert each photo one at a time, users can now put all the files in a WebNative basket and convert them all at once. I consider Custom Image Order to be the biggest time saving feature from Xinet so far,” said Digital Imaging Manager, Pete Stott.
Prior to installing WebNative Suite, information about the assets on the server was scarce—consistent information about who shot the photo, when the photo was taken, and so on, just didn’t exist. This led to penalties from modeling agencies or photographers if expired photos were used. With the Asset Timer tool, Nu Skin keeps track of usage rights and limits usage of certain photos.
“With Asset Timer, I love how I can set a period of days or months prior to its expiration when a photo will be flagged to let users know that it’s about to expire. Nu Skin often has walk-in centers, where people can purchase our products. We often have signage and imaging in our walk-in centers, so it’s important that we don’t print any images that will expire in a few months. It would cost hundreds of dollars to reprint another image,” said Stott.
Stott added, “Overall, WebNative Suite is an invaluable piece of our workflow, and we’re not even using it to its full potential yet. I can confidently say that it is indispensable. Without WebNative Suite, it would require so much more work and so many more man-hours to do the same things. We had looked at other solutions and none of them gave us the features that we really wanted. WebNative was the best fit for our needs.”
