A retrospective of David duChemin's work and travels, the first art book form the author is also a lesson in photography, written mostly with the photographs. Sit down, study each page and understand the balance present in each image.
David duChemin is a well known humanitarian and world photographer widely known for his motto “Gear is Good… Vision is Better”. The Canadian photographer has preached the idea for years and has even created a blog, The Pixelated Image, where the concept has been the basis for multiple articles.
A published photographer, with multiple books you can find in the market, all mixing photographs with text where the author shares his views on the importance of Vision above the insane buying of new gear, David duChemin recently launched a printed book for people eager to get his images in a more tangible way than offered in the eBooks he has also launched.
This time the photographer leaves the words aside and creates a book where images are dominant. SEVEN is a 12x 12 inches 160 pages book that, as David duChemin says, “is a retrospective collection of the personal work I’ve done over the last 7 years on 7 seven continents.” The book was published as a limited edition book with only 1,000 signed and numbered copies, and once those are gone, they're gone.
SEVEN is a fine art book, printed in Canada on gorgeous 100lb McCoy Silk Text stock, at 10 microns. David duChemin says that “I am truly proud of this. I created this as a legacy piece. I wanted to create something beautiful, inside and out. Something that was a delight to touch and hold. I wanted something that would inspire and show you the world the way I see it, in these fleeting glimpses of beauty, hope, and wonder. Unlike so much of what I publish, this is not an educational book. The book opens with a short essay about the gift of photography, and what follows is photograph after photograph, quietly captioned with location and date. I want, at the end of the day, my photographs to speak for themselves. I also believe that looking at, and studying, photographs, is some of the best education we can have in terms of making our own photographs.”
