news010_all

A digest of last week’s news is a selection of some of the news from week 09 from 2016 related to the worlds of photography and video, covering multiple topics, always rounded up with a reading suggestion.

New ImagePROGRAF PRO printers

Canon announced a new range of imagePROGRAF PRO large format professional inkjet printers. The new imagePROGRAF PRO-2000 and imagePROGRAF PRO-4000 are designed to bring stunning image quality to professional photographers and fine art applications, while the new imagePROGRAF PRO-4000S and imagePROGRAF PRO-6000S deliver fast and reliable printing to high-volume print service providers that require photo quality prints such as posters, banners and canvas.

SD: the Video Speed Class

The SD Association (SDA), a global ecosystem of companies setting industry-leading memory card standards, launched its fastest speed class, Video Speed Class, which also delivers real-time multi-file recording for many applications and supports the highest video resolutions and qualities available today. With Video Speed Class, 4K, 8K, 3D and 360 degree video recordings are now assured and accessible to consumers and professionals alike.

The new Video Speed Class maintains the tradition of ensuring guaranteed minimum performance levels as the familiar Speed Class and UHS Speed Class systems do today. Minimum speeds will range from 6MB to 90 MB per second. The fastest options, V60 and V90, support 8K resolution, while V6, V10 and V30 capture high-definition and 4K resolution.

Smooth Trans Focus Laowa

Available for Nikon, Canon, Sony A, Sony E and Pentax, the new Laowa 105mm F2 STF lens features 11 elements in 8 groups with a 14 blade aperture and a minimum focus distance of just 90cm. The STF on the lens stands for Smooth Trans Focus, in reference to its special optical system, which is intended to deliver smooth transitions between crisp in‐focus areas and creamy defocused background or foreground areas. This unique manual focus only lens, featuring an integrated apodisation filter that provides superior bokeh rendering and crystal sharp images, is ideal for portraiture.

The lens is available in UK, from UK Lens Optics, for £649.99 (no U.S, launch and retail price indicated yet).

Lightroom for iOS 2.2 available!

Lightroom 2.2 for iOS is available, and as Adobe indicates, brings a bunch of improvements, including an often requested feature: full resolution output.

With version 2.2, we added in the ability for Lightroom mobile to output full resolution files for any file that was either captured on the device or added to the device, either through the camera connection kit, transferred via Wi-Fi from a camera directly, or transferred to the device via services like email, Dropbox, or Google Drive, says Adobe. Still, the program does not support RAW (if you thought it would), not even Adobe’s own DNG, which already can be edited in the Lightroom for Android version.
